i know there are many that use a 5speed type9 with a cross flow, mine will be a 1700 what im wondering is are the ratios good, it will be used mainly on the road,i have a 4speed at the moment just wondering if it would be over geared if u get what i mean  or are they just right

I've thought about a 5 speed many times before,

And nearly done it once, I was talked out of it due to cutting the tunnel up a bit,

Would be nice to know of a box that would bolt straight up with no chopping or manipulation

This is my next project on mine, did any of you have to modify tunnel ?? as that's not what i want to do. cheers :tits:

I think it is inevitable that there will some chopping, the gear lever is further back I believe and some people have to 'Widen' the tunnel, either by changing it for a larger one or the old bodge scissor jack in it and wind it out :banghead::banghead:

This is one of my mods for this years winter sorn season.

As far as i'm aware as stated above the Gear leaver hole deff needs to be moved back and unless you have an auto shell (i have  ) then a wider tunnel is needed too

I'm doing it mainly as anywhere i seem to want to go to has a motorway or 2 in the route and the old girl is screaming sitting at 70....slowing down would be easier

Try and get a v6 type 9 box. It has closer ratios and is heavy duty (3.3 first gear instead of 3.6), but the input shaft needs shortening.

Like hen's teeth! took me 6 months to find one, a local escort rally mate had one spare that had been rebuilt, won £10 on the Lotto that weekend as well!
