After having my car finished well over 2 years now and only running it 6 times, iv finally had a good result.

Iv have plenty of problems along the way including a misfire, which took a long time to sort out, a broken half shaft which led to a broken case, spool etc.. only after 4 previous shake down runs. And most importantly a serious lack of money and enthusiasm after all the crap.

I took the car out to the hot rod drags with a new axle fitted and only managed 1 run due to the weather and it was a disappointing 15.3 after a shit start and a 3 second 60ft!!

But we went to shakey this saturday, first run 13.7 @ 101mph followed by a 12.9 @ 104.6mph.

There should be more left in the car as its not been set up on a rolling road yet and the 60ft should come down, i also didn't want to rev it too hard before its been on the rollers either.

we had to call it a day at that though because I think we have suffered some damage to the gearbox but its no big problem as its just a STD rs 4 speed!

Totally over the moon and it seems like its all been worthwhile now, its took a long time but we have got it in to the 12's with hopefully more to come. Id like to thank everyone who's helped along the way, you know who you are!

Well done to you and your Dad Joe.

This should just be the beginning. I've no doubt with a bit more time in the car rather than round it and under it you should acheive even better times. I really pleased for you both.

You should be whizzing past me and James with your set up and then it's only a certain Maltese chap to beat! That'll be an 11 then! 8):tits:

Keep at it - you'll get there.

Nice work. Soon you'll be knocking on the doors of James Harris & Toby Kent 8)

I have no doubt!

I might have to move my door then! I definately don't want Joe beating my back door in!

Thanks for all the positive comments. it means a lot!

Bill, its still a steel shell but with fibreglass wings, boot, bonnet and doors and has been built to accommodate a ladder bar rear end. and it also has a full welded in cage.

msymes, we have done a lot of work to the engine but because money was an issue we had to use what we had so its still only a 1700 and i even used the set of pistons i had in my old escort, its got a big valve head that my dad spent weeks doing the porting on, that really is a work of art and is probably where all the power is coming from! some 45's and an old mass hot rod exhaust manifold.

Oh and Toby i hope you are right, id love to smash your back door in lol!!

Thanks again Joe

Thanks again for all the positive comments, on a different forum theres been a few comments the car was run on gas, i did start to fit the car out with nitrous but it is by no means installed, as you can see from the picture the foggers have been fitted and the lines ran to the solenoids but that is as far as i have got.

cheers Puddy, it wasn't who you'd expect lol. was on a different forum, turns out it was only a mate of a mate winding me up!

Off the bottle, my dream was to have the fastest in the uk so faster than Toby really. I think iv got a chance of that, however Tobys more optimistic than me and 11's are a long way away!

with gas i would have thought 11's might be in reach?

Its hard to say iv only had 2 runs when iv driven the car hard enough to run some good numbers, and what i thought was gearbox damage is possibly the axle again, so ill have to wait till next year to see.

What would you put money on mate? that post is confusing lol!

But yeah, the malta guys were very friendly, i chatted to Martin a lot when we were there, i found him to be a really genuine bloke and very helpful. His NO MERCY escort is my favourite ever and with a 12.0 E.T is what dreams are made of for us x flow guys! however my engine hasn't been built like his, only the head is similar, we used what we had and read a lot.
