I like the old type of cheese toastie maker...you know the one that makes the bread into triangles and seals the edges....dead nice :D

Thats the one we use and there the best as you can fill them with beans aswell, Its like having beans on toast but the beans are in the toast

We have one of those with a stainless steel case. My mum & dad got it as a wedding prezzie back in 1973, so it's very 70's and I suppose what you would class as retro. We still use it today, works as good as it was when it was new... They don't make them like they used to :lol::lol::lol:

BUT, as far as toasties go, your all wrong. What you want to do is put some ham in with some sliced mushrooms and a sprinkle of Lea & Perrins (not to much).

Ding Dang Doo! :wink::lol:

Sound like an ad for cadbury's cream egg :lol::lol:

I do like a toastie done in the maker, only thing i dislike is the lack of useable toast space when done this way due to the triangle pressing process :?

I prefer doing them under the grill also because you have full control on the meltidness of the cheese and can inspect it before withdrawing it from heating, and if you withdraw it and have your other piece of toast ready and waiting to chuck on whilst still bubbling and turn the whole lot over the cheese will bond to both sides perfectly :tongue:

Loverly juberly

Not so keen on those triangle type toastie makers, I always find that the cheese comes out like Lava and I end up with 3 degree burns on the roof of my mouth and no skin left on my tongue :(

Come to think of it, I've managed to achieve that by wolfing down hot pizza after a few beers too.

An interesting point and a challenge I rise to gladly

From the dictionary: -

skin (definition)

• noun

1 the thin layer of tissue forming the natural outer covering of the body of a person or animal.

2 the skin of a dead animal used as material for clothing or other items.

3 the peel or outer layer of a fruit or vegetable.

4 an outer layer.

5 before another noun informal referring to pornography: the skin trade.

6 Brit. informal a skinhead.

Now arguably it is not item 1 as it is not external to the body. 2, 3, 5, & 6 can be dismissed for obvious reasons (though it has to be said I've met a few individuals best described as vegetables and as they could speak (just) it stands to reason that they had tongues.)

I therefore submit that as the tongue is surrounded by an outer coating or layer (or it would bleed continually) that outer coating must therefore meet the definition of skin at number 4. If further evidence is necessary, next time I'm pissed and burn a layer of it off with red hot pepperoni, I shall keep that layer and submit it as defence exhibit 1

 FPMS

Nice one vista and once again I think you are correct mate:wink:

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works, but the tongue is actually a muscle. Its the only muscle in the whole body that is only attached at one end, and therefore I submit that it is not covered in 'skin'..... I thank you

I will get my coat
