XjamesX Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 So after meaning to do it ever since I signed up for the board, i've finally got round to but a few pic's of my car up (you might have seen it on the OSF stand on sunday) It's running a pinto w/ a 5 speed type 9. So when I brought the car it had no MOT or tax. To get it through the MOT I had to put new rear shocks on and have a fiddle with the front brakes (inc changing the pads) so not too bad really. Around that time I also put on some door seal rubbers or what ever you wanna call em, as they were missing. I've changed the tyres and alloys to what they are now, put in new seats (from an Alfa 175 if I remember right, and they are mint!) and general cleaned up the interior (put the clock in, resprayed the steering wheel etc). and done loads of other little bits and pieces not worth mentioning, just tidying and changing little bits and fiddling with a few bits to get in running better! Probably loads of other stuff that isn't coming into my head atm! Oh and today I put a new rear bumper on which I picked up at classic ford show on sunday! When I brought the car I always intended to change it to black bumpers, (quarters at the front) and round headlights, but tbh the longer i've had the car the more and more I like it how it is! (opinions would be great on that!) Anyway here are some pic's I took today. New (for me anyway!) Bumper I put on today Before this I had never done anything on a car ever, not even changed the oil, so I have been doing it all with the help / advice of my grandad, which is great, and so far we have done everything on his drive Next up I want to get a new stainless exhaust, have the back seats trimmed to match the fronts (although looking on alfa forums the cloth is impossible to get as they are out of a limited edition model I think) and change the number plates to black and silver metal ones We've also got a few things to do like sort out a oil leak coming from the crank shaft pully seal, and eventually possibly have to change the clutch assembly. Anyway, there it is
lotusless Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 Great job for your first time i think leave the bumpers you have on it, square headlamps are the new round oh and black + silver plates are illegal on your reg and i think they look wrong on a later car stick with the one's you have imo.
marky4 Posted May 29, 2012 Report Posted May 29, 2012 thats a lovely car you should be very proud with all your hard work
paulwoodford Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 Looks lovely! Where is the speaker / speakers mounted for the radio? Cheers Paul
monkeymoreton Posted May 31, 2012 Report Posted May 31, 2012 you can have pressed metal plates in the same colour as you've got but for black and silver it has to be pre 1974 lovley car i like the front seats weirdly really suits it
XjamesX Posted May 31, 2012 Author Report Posted May 31, 2012 Thanks for all the kind comments so far guys I was aware that the Black and Silver plates arn't "legal" for my car but i've seen / know alot of cars post 74' with them on (inc mk2 escorts) and when i've spoken to the owners they've said they have never had any trouble for having them on. I just figure they might suit the look of the car tbh?! Paul, I don't have any speakers for the radio, it's not connected, just there to fill the hole and look the part! I wouldn't want to cut holes anywhere for them (parcel shelf or door cards) anyway Where would they have originally been? monkeymoreton I agree the seats work so well with the car and are so comfortable / in fantastic condition, I was so so happy when I managed to get them, as I had been after something like a pair of seats from an RS turbo fez as I thought they would look good, but these are way better and you don't see the RS one in as good condition as these.
In The Pit Posted June 1, 2012 Report Posted June 1, 2012 Paul, I don't have any speakers for the radio, it's not connected, just there to fill the hole and look the part! I wouldn't want to cut holes anywhere for them (parcel shelf or door cards) anyway Where would they have originally been? The speaker (only 1) would originally have been under the dash if you look at the steel part of the dash there is a grille just under the windscreen thats where the speaker sits. I dont think black/silver plates will look right on an S reg, the police can give you a fine for that and it wont pass its MOT. The plates you have are in the correct pre 2001 Old Charles Wright font so they look spot on. I'd keep the chrome bumpers and square lights myself, I like the fact you've kept the unobtainable Popular Plus sticker on the dash, as many have been removed/fallen off.
442 Posted June 17, 2012 Report Posted June 17, 2012 If i could have a mk2 it would be this one tastefully done mate well done
XjamesX Posted June 22, 2012 Author Report Posted June 22, 2012 I like the fact you've kept the unobtainable Popular Plus sticker on the dash, as many have been removed/fallen off. Ha ha yeah cheers, I always though that sticker was cool I've been meaning to get one made up same font and size but bermuda blue in colour to go underneath and say "PINTO POWERED". Thought it might be a nice idea If i could have a mk2 it would be this one tastefully done mate well done Cheers mate
XjamesX Posted June 22, 2012 Author Report Posted June 22, 2012 Some more pics that tom (SebringRS) took at classic ford show
Ale06 Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 Lovely MK2!! Congratulations. One of my Taunus has Bermuda Blue, but it is different than yours, mine is metallic and darker.
Tall paul Posted July 7, 2012 Report Posted July 7, 2012 Very nice mate, as said I'd leave the chrome bumpers etc, matches the wheels aswell
XjamesX Posted September 3, 2012 Author Report Posted September 3, 2012 Nice pic from a few weeks ago with a few mates cars
Boreham Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 love the colour. there's a few turning up in that colour and I didn't think it was a popular colour back in the day tbh.
sidpf1972 Posted January 1, 2013 Report Posted January 1, 2013 what a bag of shte where did you you buy that from
fefu17 Posted January 2, 2013 Report Posted January 2, 2013 Cracking mk2 mate, love the colour Strange how someone put square headlamps in there whereas most ghias are converted to rounds I would leave everything as it is though...
Top Ghia Posted January 3, 2013 Report Posted January 3, 2013 Looks good that mate, a very refreshing change to see the full width bumpers and square lamps. And i love the colour too.
