I thought there was a large pot of money somewhere to help cover people who have been involved in a crash with people who are not insured? Or is that just a myth?

I think most insurance companies cover against this without effecting your no claims,as long as its proven to be 3 rd parties fault. I was involved in a hit n run last year, got the other cars details etc and went straight to the police. It took 15 months to sort and my insurance told me it would have been easier if the other driver was uninsured! :?: wtf

I looked at the mib thing, going to call insurance when I'm home,

I spoke with the crack head and got a pic with her number plate etc before she done one.

Will have to see what the old bill say.

In 1989 an uninsured driver crashed into my lovely 2.8i capri in a stinky old montego.I was paid out by the M.I.B but it took 2 years.I also had to go to court to help prosecute the div for driving without due care.It left me out of pocket big time in the short term and i ended up running an 80 quid Polo in the interim.I really do hope it works out for you.

the car is tax though, so much be registered somewhere and have insurance at some point.

Guess they couldnt keep up payments on the policy or just got a cover note to cover them at the post office. Scum.

I was hit by an uninsured driver years ago, he had no MOT or Tax either and was known to local police force when they came out to the accident. He took half of the front end off my Sierra at the time. Took 2 and a half years to sort it through the MIB and get the car rebuilt. I also lost my NCD until the Solicitor wrote to my insurance company. The Police report went in my favour as I had just pulled up to a junction as this muppet turned in too early. Think it's much quicker now. Have been hit by 2 uninsured drivers now and if it happens again I dunno what I'm gonna do to them
