XjamesX Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Seeing pic's like this always makes my stomach turn a bit, gutting
SmokeEm Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Fractured a fuel pipe Jeff just told me he'd put his 50's back on it. Such a sad sight
James HPE Motorsport Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Was gutted when I found out last night! An iconic car burnt to the ground! It's so easily done, that's why I have a plumbed in extinguisher system for mine on order! I hope there is at least something he can salvage to build another one if he chooses to!
harris horse power Posted August 24, 2012 Report Posted August 24, 2012 Made me feel sick when I see the photos this morning. What a shame it was by far my favroite escort and the very car that got me into Old skool fords.
Lil Bill Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Was gutted to see this going round Retards Club this morning It was such a nice car!
over_head_cam Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Gutting. Hopefully no one was hurt. At the end of the day a car can be replaced. Still sad to see a dead Escort though.
Jeff HPE Motorsport Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 I spoke to Andy in length yesterday about what had happened & yes he was so upset & gutted, that such a Legend of a car was totally destroyed ! He told me he welled up as he helplessly watched his car in a ball of flames & realised that was the end of a car that Andy had owned for 24 years & had Loved !! Andy burnt his arm & leg before he got out but the only thing hurting was his head !! It was a fractured fuel pipe that had gone spraying fuel everywhere & the inevitable happened !! We almost feel that we have lost part of the family,in a strange sort of way !! Jeff Harris..
fatboycharlie Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 very sad that was an animal of a car
damian1969josh Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Must be gutted see this car at wingspan and boxhill was awesome? hope it can rise from the ashes......
James HPE Motorsport Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 Must be gutted see this car at wingspan and boxhill was awesome? hope it can rise from the ashes...... Word on the street is he is going to attempt another full resto! The car is getting stripped tuesday (well, whats left of it) and then its off to the sand blasters. Hopefully the distortion wont be too bad!
fezza Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 What a shame Fingers crossed its salvageable
joe1600 Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Such a sad sight, this car has always been my inspiration
katana Posted August 28, 2012 Report Posted August 28, 2012 Whilst I have huge sympathy for anyone who loses their pride & joy like this, it does occur to me something else is happening in these fires! A lot seem to occur with cars fitted with side draught carbs (filtered or open ram pipes - I don't know) and its put down to split fuel lines but having been playing and modifying bikes for 20 odd years i've spilled enough fuel from carbs and tank directly on to a hot engine and exhaust to know petrol won't just kick off and burst into flame! The induction is away from most exhausts so i'm speculating that maybe if the fuel line is pissing fuel every which way its either the carbs backfiring out the open inlet or a badly fitting plug lead on the dizzy that allows a loose spark to start the inevitable? Maybe a couple more things to bear in mind for checking? If it saves a car and or / a life - its gotta be worth 10 minutes?
Admin Vista Posted August 28, 2012 Admin Report Posted August 28, 2012 Distributor is on the same side as the carbs / intake system on a Pinto and YB so hey presto, small leak and you have fuel / fuel vapour and spark source of ignition localised in exactly the same area.
