Brett Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Im just wondering if i buy a Mk2 Front spoiler how they attach to the front? My Escort currently has a more rounded front end and i would prefer a sportier look in the future and was wondering if its just an easy switch and if it just replaces the front end of the one currently on it? -Brett
oxb1l Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Mine has an original ford one which has a metal bar with 6mm studs at the lower side which fix it to the front panel There are screws into the wheel arch (1 each side) and one each side in the corner in a moulded hole below the bumper Screws behind the number plate and a bit of tiger seal where it kept moving away from the panel Fibreglass copies are available that dont come with the metal bar but look ok Screws and tiger seal I would think and you won't go wrong Bill
James HPE Motorsport Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Exactly as Bill said. The fibreglass copies are quite good now, a few bolts/rivets into the wheels arch, bolt the number plate through the spoiler and into the front panel and some stikaflex or tiger seal across the top edge to finish it all off! Job done!
Brett Posted December 6, 2012 Author Report Posted December 6, 2012 Yeah the one you have is the look i was going for. So the one on mine will just unscrew anfd the replacment will take its place. Also any idea what models had the chrome bumpers?
shaun1.6ghia Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Hi Brett, the front splitter slides up below your bumper so you don't have to remove anything. Mine is a fiberglass replica and used a self tapper in each wheel arch and bolted the front tight by drilling the number plate holes out and bolting that through using a plastic tube as a sleeve. Hope this helps
Brett Posted December 6, 2012 Author Report Posted December 6, 2012 Alright so the black bumper on the front will stay in place?
mk2 mike Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 That's right mate the fibreglass spoiler will just fit straight over your original metal front panel (black bit in your pic). Dead easy to fit and makes a massive difference to the look of the front of the car. Go for it!
harriertony Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 It looks to me on your photo that your front valance is bent down on the O/S, so it will prob need bending back up before the spoiler will fit properly, but it will deffo transform the appearance of the car
Brett Posted December 7, 2012 Author Report Posted December 7, 2012 While i work on the mechanical aspect of the car before i fix the body work and paint it i was just hoping to fit front and rear spoilers and cirlce headlights and grille. I see that a front spoiler should cost around $200 and $150 for a rear spoiler (Aus prices?) Does this sound right?
oxb1l Posted December 7, 2012 Report Posted December 7, 2012 Hi Brett Prices vary a lot on rear spoilers from £50 with a few marks on the foam to £1000 for the brand new in the ford box bufty boys Front rubber original ones again the same depending on condition I'm not sure on a new fibreglass one but I have seen a lot of the south African cars that come here have the same front spoiler as mine but in black it may be worth sourcing one there ????? Bill
Brett Posted December 12, 2012 Author Report Posted December 12, 2012 They guy i bought my sports dash from also has an RS2000 Rear rubber spoiler he said i can have for $125 shipped. he said its good condition, should i go witht hat or a $175 fibreglass one? cheers
Admin Vista Posted December 12, 2012 Admin Report Posted December 12, 2012 If it's in good nick I'd go with the original rubber one
Brett Posted December 12, 2012 Author Report Posted December 12, 2012 What do good condition ones usually sell for?

I thought you were talking about a rear one though, I'm not sure there was ever a rubber front one.
