This is only my opinion but it's been niggling me for a while, After going again for the 8th year, Classic Ford show just isn't about the classics anymore! Going back six or seven years and everything was different, i.e.  lots of proper classics. Now its just full of modern fiestas, mondeo's, pumas & focus's.

Now I know that these shows are all about ticket sales and how many people they can get through the gates but I'm sure this puts a lot off people coming or going again (It does for me!)

Surely a car age limit should be implemented (something like pre 1985)  so that the show can really be about CLASSIC FORD'S! Not one made a couple of years ago that you can see on any high street on a normal day!

I think they should have a rolling 20 year old limit, i know that would still allow in what we term "modern" but at least it would create some basic rules for the show, some people may now think of a 100E or MK1 Consul as vintage as they are now 60 years old and they are equally not interested in cars of this age as were are not interested in there plastic poo :shit:

As Vista said if you do not like mordern crap don't look, just spend all day on the OSF stand with people who own proper classic Fords :Bravo:

I had the same convo on another forum a few years ago, they were gonna have a stand and where looking for cars, i said i was the only person on the forum that should be on the stand based on that my Escort fits the show, not Mk1 Focus RS' and Fiesta ST's and a argument kicked off

.

I dont know where the problem starts.... stand pass's are handed out to car clubs who then hand them out to who they want. I never understood why they dont filter out cars from the carpark, there is normally loads of nice cars there, just wave them to a car park on the other side, they are happy as closer to event, and organizers get more cars on display.give it a few years it be another Ford Fair....

Surly its down to Classic Ford allowing cars on display that wouldn't feature in their mag.... Personally i prefered a smaller show with the correct cars there.....

A Reason i liked retro show as wasnt so well known and norm had cars in line with what show was about....hope this year dont let it down for me as be the last Show i attend in the UK for some time

It's a subject that comes up every year, with the same answer: Don't look at what you don't like.

What if more and more people follow mine and Joe1600 thoughts off here and stop attending..... more and more OSF cars dont bother attending places filled with Focus and Mondeo's.....Result FORD FAIR

If i had a modern piece of crap id be embarrassed to take it to the classic ford show and show it among real classics. The line should be drawn at pre 1985 in my opinion.

Follow the trend of recent years and more and more OSF cars are attending, not the reverse. If you choose not to go because some people turn up in cars you don't approve of, who will miss out, you or them?

Totally agree with everything said here and couldn't put it better myself!

I can understand that I could just walk past the cars I don't like but when there everywhere then it becomes a little difficult to ignore.

Think about the Goodwood Revival or Le mans classic, There a specific guide lines set out to keep the event as enjoyable as possible for the real target audience.

its because its a comercial venture and has to pay for the venue they are hiring simple fact is there is not enough old cars left to fill the venues to make them pay we might think so but i panic about the old skool ford summer show each year about getting enough cars to fill the venues we have chosen i only like some of these shows now days because of the auto jumble to keep my old cars on the road but even that has changed with the events charging the stall holders too much but if we stopped attending it would just let more new stuff in i have always thought if only one person sees a classic and in converted away from the newer stuff then it was worth it

I know there is a difference with what people on here class as classic and what others, and Classic Ford will attract Cosworths and XR2's XR3's RS1600i S1 Turbo etc and tbh that wouldn't bother me as they are classed as classic, a bright green 13 plate focus on the other hand.....

Bassically im saying the cut off dont have to 80's could be early 90's.

And as i said before filter out the cars from the car park that may not have a stand pass but fit the show

Eventually there wont be enough oldskool fords for the shows to grow but seperating or rolling age limit could work also what about introducing classic american stuff always better to look at than rows of blue ford focuses and would be great to watch racing each other especially at ford fair (bit of topic)but imagine watching mustangs falcons capris cortinas on track would be great

I don't think the argument about 'not enough osf to fill a show' holds up.

Just look at the general car park at classic ford this year. I'd say there was just as many 'proper' osf parked outside the event as there was inside!

Easily enough to replace all the plastic junk inside with proper metal. Obviously in another 20 years this will change but for now...

This comes up every year and there the fact is there is no way to restrict what cars enter.

How would you suggest it's done? By model? By year? By judges at the gate?

You can't do it by model as people like different things - is a 3-door Cosworth a welcomed classic? Some will say yes, say will say no. Is a standard Sierra a classic? Some will say yes, more will say no. So what's the solution? You let some Sierras in but not others? Who would determine which are 'worthy'?

You can't do it by year either. Say the cut off is 1987. Then some Escort RS Turbos can come in, and some built a month later can't. That seems fair.

And judging on the gate on the day seems perfectly feasible when you consider the queues to get in as they are.

End of the day it's a big show that's getting bigger. It will attract all kinds of people and there's no feasible way to stop that from happening.

Just enjoy what you like looking at and look away from things you don't ;)

What do you recon on classic American fords ? I know for osfdc and this site it's old Brit tin but at a big show like classic ford I recon it would help bring the crowds

i would love to know how you turn people who park in a car park to park in shows so when organizers are trying to find out how many cars they have on the day we say hold on wait till they show up and maybe we can convince them to show there cars so we ask for a 200 car stand then stand on the gate all day and convince people who did not want to show there car for whatever reason to bring it in this site asked this year for a hand to park people up and struggled to get them so wheres all these volenteers coming from

This is my point from the top. Cant they have people pulling people to one side on they way in and giving them a pass to park in "public stand area" or something, bet every year there is 30+ cars in the car park, and tbh with they way things are would rather be on a stand than in a empty car park....

but you never answered your question who is the people who would do this take classic ford if you ever have problems at the gate they are not on hand to sort the problems out all they want is a car show right lets say old skool ford site was to do this who would sit there all day about half a mile from anyone on the stand attending the gate and  wont they like to go to the show as well  it does not work you kneed to know in advance what cars are coming

i agree i thought a few years back it was 99% classic  there is some serious plastic now but i just walk past   most of the plastic was hiden up the back so the classic took pride of place , it makes the old skool more old an alot more cooler aslong as the majority is classic ford i wont moan personaly i find the best part of the show is the strip an jumble i thought a few years  ago there was a seperate car park for general public with a classic ford an plastic parked in the big car park love the show cant grumble
