4DOOR-SHERWOOD Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Well I have spent the last 3 years changing my mind every week about engine choices for my Cossack mk2 escort! So I have finally decided that I no longer want an XE or S2000 etc and would like to stay Ford. Do I stick with a big power pinto or a cossie YB? I do like the idea of modern ford like ST170 but what's everyone's views!? Cheers Al
garyv6100e Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Either keep it oldskool and go for a big power pinto or dare to be different and go for a Duratec, as good as a YB is it just seems to of been done so many times maybe its time to move on and inovate.
sidpf1972 Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 how about two thousand cans of hairspray and a match? 1
dalmarshall Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Pound for pound you cant beat the Pinto for that sweet sound and performance, N/A YB also sweet but lots more dollar and is it worth the extra money compared to the extra power? Modern power - leave it in the modern cars!! Yep i'd definately go Pinto, make that Cossack go and sound as mad as it looks
frankthefencer Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 2.3 duratec on throttle bodies with a sequential gearbox and a lottery win to fund it!!!! 1
garyv6100e Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 2.3 duratec on throttle bodies with a sequential gearbox and a lottery win to fund it!!!! Lotto funded Cosworth crate 2.3 Duratec with 280 bhp yes please http://www.cosworth.com/products/performance-parts/duratec-engines/duratec-crate-engines/?gclid=CPHT0q-uq7oCFU_HtAodeQgAfA
deltamal Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 2.1 stage 3 Pinto on throttle bodies..... 2.4 nasp YB..... 2.9 Cologne......
4DOOR-SHERWOOD Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 Well I have chance of a big power 2.4 pinto for it! It's a tough one as for the price of the pinto I could have a full duratec conversion with throttle bodies! Oh I do hate decisions lol 1
SmokeEm Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Don't buy someone elses Al, get your current one down south and get it built into a screamer!
quickrack Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Listening to the rally lads on Motors a lot of the escort boys are gone back to pinto power. Sheer ability to take abuse seems to be winning, over newer engines.... And they sound "right".
Mgentry90 Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 Why spend thousands modifying a pinto to get 200bhp when you can buy a more modern engine that's less juicy and a lot cheaper. Although the sound of an old skool engine you can't beat 1
4DOOR-SHERWOOD Posted October 24, 2013 Author Report Posted October 24, 2013 Tough one Dave as building one to the spec that I have been offered is a huge amount more! Seems the old pinto really are making a come back over the modern stuff!
SmokeEm Posted October 24, 2013 Report Posted October 24, 2013 That is true Al BUT I would rather spend my money with KNOWN people with actual figures. Tried n tested is always best.
SmokeEm Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 We've all heard stories of mates buying 200bhp 2.1/2.2 pinto's for £1000 that when dyno'd made 120bhp and when opened up its nothing more than a cammed up 205 block!
FlyingYeti Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 I had the same dilemma and i finally went with the pinto, spent about £3500 on it and its being installed this week but i know once i hear that on full chat it will all be worth it!!!!
turnover Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 If you want the cheapest and fastest option then it has to be ybt
buzzard Posted October 28, 2013 Report Posted October 28, 2013 I love pintos . but I do see the advantages of a duratec or st170 . the only thing that puts me off is the cost of a proper convertsion like retro fords . either of these , pinto duratec or st170 would be great as a turbo convertion .
BigBubba Posted October 29, 2013 Report Posted October 29, 2013 Pintos and x flows do sound right in a mk2, but to get serious reliable power is mega bucks. YB is proven but overpriced imho, zetec is a good inexpensive choice, and Duratec becomes mega expensive if you plan on going over 200 horses. It really depends on budget. If money was no object, then it would have to be a Millington!!! Staying in the realms of reality though, 2.3 Duratec on bodies would get my vote, but at 3000 sheets for steel crank, rods and pistons it aint for the cash conscious!!!!!!
turnover Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 Ybt isn't overpriced nice 280hp that will run for years and plenty fast enough in any escort for a road car
