Admin Vista Posted April 22, 2014 Admin Report Posted April 22, 2014 It absolutely would be a stealth tax, with VAT and fuel duty already payable on fuel how would you distinguish one part of the fuel tax from another? And, as you're already paying tax on a tax (VAT on fuel duty) what's to say you won't also have to pay VAT on the VED element of the tax? 10p a litre? What makes you think that is all it will be? No-one would ever have a clear idea of what they were actually paying in annual VED ever again. Ergo stealth tax as it's very difficult to monitor how much it's actually costing you each year, and very easy for the chancellor to edge the price ever upwards in 1 penny increments without it attracting too much negative press. #crapidea! 1
monkeymoreton Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 Putting tax on fuel will just mean more businesses will struggle so your idea will make everything you buy or get delivered more expensive. I still think all these new tax free cars are going to cause a problem in the years to come why can't they pay the lower tax bracket instead.
DT36 Posted April 23, 2014 Report Posted April 23, 2014 I wonder where we would stand putting a hybrid or an Eco Tech engine into a classic ford? Would be nuts if it qualified for cheaper or zero tax. Imagine the stick you would get though at clubs and meets... My lads got one of those 1 litre Fiesta Eco Techs and it really is a quick car. I have also driven the same engine in a Focus and that didn't hang about either.
robo0121 Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 putting it on the fuel is definatly not the answer are you an up and coming politician.?? do you not think we pay enough for fuel already.? and as for the no need for tax discs because the police can check the car out surely thats providing the police car is equipped with anpr so that it pings up and to my knowledge the local panda cars are not equipped. that leaves room for a certain number to get away with having to pay at all especially if you live in some of these rural areas where the sight of a traffic car is as rare as a 9 bob note and is only patrolled by the local copper on a pushbike. for those that do.good luck to ya
Veemax Posted April 28, 2014 Report Posted April 28, 2014 static Anpr cameras are being installed slowly but surely in every town, city (gas stations) etc as we speak on lamp post and road signs, so even rural cars when they go shopping or for fuel they will eventually get caught out, they have been trialling ANPR cameras on road signs here in newark the last month all mounted halfway up streetlamps, the way i see it fails is the drivers who dont pay for tax an insurance dont often register the cars so unless pulled over never recieve a penalty notice anyway
