I need a big favour I need to send off to register my camper as a historic vehicle. It is a October 1973 build date which i worked out from the chassis code of:  NK using the burton power chart

http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-manufacture-dates.html

basically the dvla need something on headed paper from an enthusiasts club to say this is the case.

If one of the admin can help me with this that would be brilliant as I cant seem to think of anywhere else i can get this sort of thing from.

the vehicle is my 1974 Mk1 transit camper registration SNJ 141N

with a build date of october 1973 from the chassis code of NK.

I didnt know where to put this post so if it needs moving etc please feel free to do so.

Thanks guys :)

I cannot promise that they will accept a letter from us as being from a bonafide club (though we obviously know we are) but I am more than happy to try and offer this as a service to a contributor

Fangk you very much

Now send an email to the admin email address with details of your car, i.e. model, colour, reg no, date of registration and chassis number and I will draft something for onward transmission and send it back to you.

The DVLA declined my application and have said they will need a letter from one of their approved clubs or Ford themselves.

Just being fussy i think :(

thanks for trying for me though mate.

It was worth a go wasn't it :D

If anyone needs to prove the build date of their car to the DVLA here is a link to their approved club list

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/list-of-vehicle-owner-clubs

Maybe Oldskoolford can look into getting onto the approved list of clubs and then you could charge for the letter service to raise money for keeping the club going etc

Thanks for the update, I have been looking for a list of recognised clubs but without luck. I can see a few of these getting new members! SEOC for me! :-)

am i right in saying that is now a rolling thing so i should be tax free next year as mine was reg 15th may 1974, as the reg date is logged with the DVLA i wont need to apply along with nearly all other Mk1 Escort owners?

That's disappointing, sorry we couldn't help but as you say, it was worth a try.

Getting registered with the DVLA sounds like having to jump through a lot of hoops for some Jobsworth but I'll look into it and see what's involved.

Dont forget Texr that the Historic Vehicle is calculated with the Vehicles build date not the First Registered date, thats why you have to have the chassis (vin) number decoded, its possible yr car was built in 1973?

Im pretty sure mine is a very early 1974 car but im not worried as it wont be taxxed this year as im out the country till winter. this is why i thought it would be automatic next year as regardless of build date registration date falls in 74

i justed checked my chassie plate is (BBAT) PJ meaning its a MAY 74 car, and just checked the DVLA

Date of First Registration 15 05 1974

Seems was on the road every quickly after it was built

Don't forget, since the budget rolling exemption returned, set at 40 years. Next year we have a Mk1 luton that's exempt! :D

Hello Fred!!! Long time no speak! How are you? Good I hope

Sorry if this has already been covered but i just need to clarify something.

my car was built sept 72' which i believe makes it tax exempt (BBATME)

i understand that you need to apply to make the car/logbook tax exempt and proove it with a letter from an owners club but if the rolling exemption applies will you still have to proove it or will it automatically become tax exempt?

cheers
