Pipster007 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 While I've got your attention, what's the accepted procedure with rings? I have a long history of making duff jewellery choices and would prefer to go with her to buy one after the event so that she gets what she wants and likes rather than what I think she might like. What do you reckon? As you're sitting at the table, in between courses, make a ring from a flower stem (preferably with no thorns) that may happen to be on the table, or if you're careful in removing beer labels off bottles, then use that to make a temporary ring. Just make it look like you fidgeting She may even keep it in a book for those stories to tell your kidz You can use this ruse to make it look like it's totally off the cuff and out of the blue. You should also try to make it look as if you're surprised in your actions because you too had not thought it through. This way, you will be off the hook, by not having a ring, and it'll also mean you'll get the right ring, because you'll both have to go and get one

MK5 Posted February 14, 2007 Report Posted February 14, 2007 Pip's idea is really sweet When Essex Boy proposed to me we were staying in a hotel because we were flat hunting. He had a ring (he knew which one i liked because i'd seen it earlier that day) and he got down on one knee and proposed. Took him a while to realise I'd said yes
Admin Mk2Jo Posted February 15, 2007 Author Admin Report Posted February 15, 2007 COME ON VISTA ...... WHAT DID SHE SAY THEN
Admin Vista Posted February 15, 2007 Admin Report Posted February 15, 2007 COME ON VISTA ...... WHAT DID SHE SAY THEN Evening got off to a bad start, I'd booked dinner at a beautiful country hotel on Dartmoor called the Two Bridges http://www.twobridges.co.uk/hotel.html but when we arrived there was someone I knew from a ship years ago sat in the bar and he wanted to chat old Navy. He was an old friend I hadn't seen for years and I couldn't give him the brush off so I made polite conversation while we waited to be seated. Knowing that his wife and my girlfriend did not want to hear tales of great piss ups on foreign shores 10 years previously, I tried (and failed) to kep the converstaion away from that. Eventually we were seated, and would you believe there was someone sat a table near us from another ship I've served aboard cue more salty sea dits. Oh dear I'm thinking, not going to plan. Anyway we had a fabulous meal and rather than walking straight back to the car we walked to the the little hump back bridge shown in the about section at the link. A stream runs underneath it and I had to raise my voice to be heard above the ducks and geese that thought we were there to feed them. She said yes, though she did make me repeat myself a couple of times, and was still asking are you sure half way home. Apparently she's been waiting for me to ask her since 2 months after she met me over 2 years ago Anyway, thanks for all your good luck wishes guys, now I've just got to give my wallet a good kicking buying a ring with her on Saturday.
