Security Devices?

With yet another OSF being nicked it is obviously becoming a problem. I am very disturbed by the prospect of having my car half inched by these low-lifes as I am sure you all are.

 

Maybe we could all put up suggestions for security devices, it is definately something I have thought about and budgeted for in my build.

 

Obviously there are some brilliant alarm systems out there, I had a toad system that rang my phone if the car was disturbed (obviously car alarms are ignored by your neighbours). I also am considering a Tracker system.

 

My only concern is, with the electrics being extremely simple (and there not being many places to hide an alarm system) on OSFs, how effective would they be against the thieves?

you can now get a tracker with a small fob whitch is you keep on you, if your car moves without the fob it sends out a signal to say its stolen they ring you to confirm and send rozzers to nick the thiving scum, one fitted to one of my customers cars, a porsche cayman

When u think someone has been folowing you a bit to long. what do you do just drive around an island a couple of times? or just turn round in the middle of the road and see what they do? im worried about this once my car is finished.

i'd pull over just before a side turning. if they go past you and stop, just take the side road (that they will have passed), if they stop behind you, drive off again, if they're still following you, just call the police, simple

to be honest even the highest spec alarm wont stop a flat bed truck and a winch

I know a guy that fitted a fuel cut off solenoid, like the ones in a diesel injection pump. He put a switch under the floor to turn it on and off. I asked him how he turned it on/off without people noticing. His answer was 'I drop my keys if there is anyone around'.

I thought it was a good idea until someone stole his car. He heard his alarm going off, as he got outside, the scumbag was reversing out of the drive. The prick waved and laughed as he drove up the street.

 

I have done this on all my cars that have a electric pump. Car Starts straight away, then dies in the middle of the road, so the thief legs it. You can also get manual fuel taps that do the same job.

Was speaking to the alarm bloke yesterday and he was telling me about the one with a sim card, it's like an immobilser but works with a sim, so if your car is knicked, it will ring your phone and give you the position of your car

 

But then by that time it gone, so I think I am investing in a Stoplock steering wheel as well and maybe one of the wheels

Just make one up, if you can't fit it yourself go to an auto electrician you either trust or won't know where you live.

up near me we have sca and they do fuel taps you can ask a local banger boy as you have to have fuel taps in bangers

could you use a brake line cut off ? assentually all it is is a pipe with a high pressure valve in it ? couldnt you connect your fuel line to it?

Nice thoughts thanks. Liking the idea of an in-line vale that I can switch, and it doesn't matter where inside it is really although the fuel lines run under the passenger side (i think) on a 2.8i s Capri

one of my mates has a MK1 Escort and removes the coil when he goes inside. But like someone else said, doesnt stop them picking it up with a flat bed. Have heard stories recently of pikeys picking them up with Hiabs so they can use em for banger racing too!! Heartbreaking! Ill be oing for a quick release wheel in conjuction with a few electronic goodies. I had one on my MK3 cab and i left that quite a few times with the roof down without trouble. Some form of quick release ger lever, thats got to be some deterrent too?

I've been told a few tips by people. Take the coil lead, disconnect the battery, swap the plug leads on the dizzy around.

its the flatbed scenario that needs solving

I would say a tracker and chaining the thing to a house would be the only option in that case.....
