Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 11, 2014 Moderator Report Posted June 11, 2014 I just received a few Magnum panel items and im a bit concerned about the quality of them. If you look at the photos of the lower rear guard panel attached I dont think its even usable. I understand these things take a bit of fettling but that piece is so crinkly that no amount of bashing will ever get it into shape. It doesnt even have a hole for the bumper even though it was picture on the site. I got some strut stone shields as well and they are uneven and crinkly too. They are usable I guess just dont look very neat. 30 years of dirst road driving and the original ones have less dents in them. Has anyone encountered a quality problem with their stuff before or did I just have some bad luck?
Bigfish Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 I brought some recently and they didnt look like that. send them back and get some more.
katana Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 I'd hate to think that someone got your order and looked at the postal address and thought f**k it we'll send those reject panels - he may kick up but whose gonna send them back half way round the world! Those truly are appalling! Not what you'd expect from a good company! 1

Those truly are appalling! Not what you'd expect from a good company! Actually they came from one of the sponsors here and I advised them and I cant say the response was very positive. Given as you say it would cost me more to send it back individually than it did to be sent with a bunch of other stuff I had purchased and given what was said im not sure that any replacement would be much better. This was part of the response I got. "Because of the nature of these panels they are quite eaqsily moulded and can normally be straightened out without to much effort. That plus a little bit of filler and the panel once in place will look a lot better than you think. It is worth noting that original Ford panels don't really exist anywhere in the world, except those ripped off an old car, and these Magnum panels are a pretty good copy." They were polite and apologised for the inconvenience and that was that. My panel beater told me he couldnt do anything with it and the curves under the tail light would be totally obliterated if he was to try fit in those crinkles with filler, and said it was half the curve wasnt even there in the moulding anyways. It should be said however that the arch panel I received also was perfectly correct and usable just to put a balanced view out there as well.
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Moderator Report Posted June 11, 2014 Sorry dont know why that strange post appeared in this thread ! Deleted now
Bigfish Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 the end of the day the panel are not fit for purpose. show them the pics, and get them to send another pair, they probably wont want them back. and if they do they will have to cover the cost. that's just business 1
aardvark101 Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 They look like they were knocked up by some pissed up Pole on a Friday afternoon, i would not be pleased to get those in the post. 1
mk2xflow Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 I got magnum panels for a mini I was restoring a few yrs ago ,after offering them up to the car , the fit was that bad I threw the lot in a skip, the old adage here is you only get what u pay for 1

They pretty much apologised and told me to cover it with filler but arent going to do anything further. I only bought one side, this panel and the arch as I was just doing one side at a time so fortunately I didnt get the other. I probably wont now.
mk2xflow Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 yeh id use them for welding practice or patching panelwork mate that's all there fit for imo
macford Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Refund,,,or ask them to send you a lot lot lot of filler And some more cash to pay the panel beater 1
Danish Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 They look rubbish. It seems you've given the supplier the opportunity to make things right and they haven't so perhaps time to share who it is...? 2
Admin Vista Posted June 11, 2014 Admin Report Posted June 11, 2014 +1 on those not being of acceptable quality
over_head_cam Posted June 11, 2014 Report Posted June 11, 2014 Got to say that looks awful. It could no doubt be re-worked, but it certainly doesn't look fit for purpose

(And Ice-skating but thats another story) I am a total butcher at welding no matter how hard and how much I try. Even my own mum who knows nothing mechanical cringes at my welding work. So thats why I turn to a panel beater for that side of things. The part of the rear guard was actually fixed years ago and just left in a thick primer and when I went to sand it back to paint I noticed that the line that is a follow on from the arch to the rear of the car was missing. Its not a strong line to be sure but it wasnt there any more on that side. I didnt want to recreate the line using filler as that seemed really dodgy so that panel seemed the way to go without replacing the whole guard. The panel beater said though I would end up using more filler to fit that piece than to recreate the line LOL. So I may count my losses and go back to that idea. Just waiting for a reply to my second lot of emails so maybe something will come of it with the help of this thread. Thanks guys 1

I'd used a stick welder for years for a business making security gates, etc. and was pretty good but my MIG welding was fairly rubbish until a mate from BSC came over for the weekend and taught me.
