john_3.0s Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121398491773?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_44wt_1281 seriously? I might just break up all my cars sell the parts and give up work for a few years
Kieran Posted August 11, 2014 Report Posted August 11, 2014 Seen worse than that, when people get into a bidding war prices go silly but there are still parts available for good prices if you look in the right places
warrenk Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 In South Africa the prices have about doubled in the last 18-24months..
john_3.0s Posted August 12, 2014 Author Report Posted August 12, 2014 bonkers really isnt it, keeps me awake at night thinking about some of the stuff ive just chucked out over the years!!! 1
grantandlianne Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 hello newb here....struggling to find a osf for my budget...and to think I sold a harrier for £500......but it was 1995
mk2 mike Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 I'm always selling parts too cheap. There's a pair of RS 2000 door cards on eBay for £400!!! I just sold a pair exactly the same condition WITH handles for £50. I can't bring myself to ask the uber inflated prices. 1
iandq Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 that's life i'm afraid mate, whenever there is a demand for something the price will rise the reason fords in particular were popular was they were cheap and good fun, I rembember the scrapyards full to brimming with driveable but rusty escorts capri's anglia's you name it, but now they are sought after it is only the limit of peoples desires that will limit the price. a few weeks ago someone I know of was trying to give away a saab 93 with a dead turbo, ok not everyones cup of tea but it got scrapped in the end but it was a straight car in nice condition, if someone puts that away for 20 odd years there will probably be some saab enthusaists ranting about a 'barn find ' in the future.... some ford enthusiasts are only into fords because of their worth and they are a good investment, whilst others have to save and search out parts for their cars, but the scarcer the parts get the prices will rise, just take a look at housing! speech over, cheers, ian. 1
escortmad79 Posted August 12, 2014 Report Posted August 12, 2014 Supply & demand unfortunately. TV shows such as Wheeler Dealers & Fast & Furious have seen demand increase as well as the escalated interest in rallying over the past few years. Unfortunately this has had a knock on effect with the price of cars & parts both here & abroad! Take a look at the amount of South African Sports that have been imported recently
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted August 13, 2014 Moderator Report Posted August 13, 2014 I have a pair of brand new Mk2 Escort RS Remote Mirrors still in their boxes out in the shed somewhere that I imported from the UK back in the 80's. I should dig them out they could be worth a few quid.
mk1escortmad Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 Thought I paid a lot 10 years ago for mine best investment ever wish I had a old barn I could of filled up with em
luckyjim Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 yep,i put my escort under cover for a good ten years before I got round to rebuilding it,whilst other projects came and went.i am so glad I managed to keep hold of it(I have put a 325 Bmw e30 aside for later too and already their prices have started to go sky high).you cant beat the legend that is FORD though lol.
john_3.0s Posted August 14, 2014 Author Report Posted August 14, 2014 defo worth holding on to stuff now days. Im on the look out for an early impreza as they are shooting up in price now they are getting thinner on the ground, just gonna lock it away for a rainy day fund - its a shame really and it doesnt sit very well with me as I always think cars are there to be driven but money in the bank isnt exactly doing much at the moment - maybe thats some of the problem with interest rates so low...?
