Hi there from Houston.

I am an expat living in the US, been here for 20+ years now, and you can do things here that would be cost prohibitive in the UK, like buy cars cheaply and petrol is now under 2 pounds /gallon so driving is affordable..

I have 2 Fords:

1) 1966 Mustang fastback racer which is also road legal here in Texas, how that is possible is a complete mystery with the car the way it is, but anyway great fun, the Police love it, I get stopped all the time just so they can look...

2) 1970/71 built up RS1600 originally from New Zealand, impossible to drive on the road.

Racing in vintage events in the US ( and occasionally Europe), just finished a weekend at the new Formula 1 track in Austin which is a great track, RS1600 did not have it's best weekend, but never mind.

I am looking for a 5 speed zf transmission if anyone knows  where one is available?

I also have a 1961 Morris Minor, which the dogs love, and it is impossible to ever suffer from road rage in a 948 Minor...

Thanks in advance,

Welcome to OSF

The 5 speed ZF may turn up for sale on popular rally orientated websites (or eBay) but I've never seen one for sale on here.

Welcome!

Lovely looking collection you have there... :)

Quick question - I will be moving over to the US in the next 12 months and plan on taking my mk2 with me - How did you find getting a non-US car registered in the US? By impossible to drive on the road, do you mean they won't allow it, or your own reasons?

Thanks in advance ;)

Dave,  generally no problem is registering a car more than 25 years old in the states, my mk1 is just undriveable on the road due to it's high state of tune, it is a full race car with a dog box, would be a complete pig on the road. The Mustang on the other hand with only 400+bhp is a pussy cat on the street just a little on the loud side..

Hope this helps.
