luckyjim Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 some interesting points made here.i don't quite understand why those who cannot afford a mk1 or mk2 escort go for a mk3 escort (nice as they are), I would be more inclined to go for a nice dolomite sprint or similar.much as I love a ford other manufacturers made some good cars too,i can only assume its because the ford 'scene' is big now like the vw scene.
luckyjim Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 by the way,my wifes daily is a mk2 xr2 so I am not anti fwd, I also wouldn't expect to get it on the club stand 2
accord83 Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 Where does age make a classic? collectible, to some, possibly, but 1980 saw the launch of the Morris Ital, Lada Riva and Talbot Solara. It also saw the launch of the Ferrari Mondial and Audi Quattro. Which are the classics? Which are collectible? and which are just automotive chod best forgotten? Is the Mk3 OldSkool? Maybe not, I noticed the Mk3 dedicated website collapsed, which shows maybe its time hasn't yet come. But you might be a trend setter in furthering its cause. 2
grantandlianne Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 i dont class it as old skool more retro/modern classic i owned several 3is over the years one had my name on log book 3 times ended up running s2 turbo running gear and being a graphite grey rs1600i lookallike minus the graphocs
mk2 mike Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 Yet they seem very cheap at the mo. Worth buying and storing away? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=281444213517 Wish I was 10 quid behind you if ya reckon 8 grand is cheap for a 1.6 car with 100,000 miles on the clock, no matter how cool & mint condition it looks!!! It's not 'just' a 1.6 car with 100,000 miles on the clock though is it? You're missing the point. It's probably the rarest mk3 escort model (other than 1700t) afaik. What other RS can you buy for that cash? Mk1 RS2000? Nope. £20k Mk1 Mexico? Nope. £15k Mk2 RS2000/Mexico? Nope. £10k up. Sierra RS500? nope. £25k up Sierra RS cosworth? Nope. £15k Possibly a saph cosworth but will it be rough for £8k? Yep. And not as rare. Mk4 RS turbo? Probably but I bet they're near 100k miles too. My point was for £8k you can get a rare RS that will only go up in value. Store that away for 10 years and I bet it'll more than double in price. So yes, it IS a cheap car compared to its siblings. 1
Admin Vista Posted December 19, 2014 Admin Report Posted December 19, 2014 Actually Mike, I think some of your prices are way down. That's part of the problem we have, OSF's target market can't afford many of the cars we cater for anymore. For really top class examples I'd put the values more like Mk1 RS2000? Nope. £25k +Mk1 Mexico? Nope. £17.5k +Mk2 RS2000/Mexico? Nope. £15 - £20k up. (Mks Mexico's can in fact attract higher prices because of their rarity)Sierra RS500? nope. £40k up (frequently much much more, think I saw one sell for over £60k this year)Sierra RS cosworth? Nope. £20k +
irishtorag Posted December 19, 2014 Report Posted December 19, 2014 And to think mike and vista a bog standard pop+ or gl with no mods but restored to a high standard is now also fetching 10K as they are nearly rarer than so rs models One xample I pulled my standard gl up at a show unpolished etc and walked away with car of the show . What does that say ? it was no better finished than most there but it was the only bog standard gl escort. kenny 2
