bazoff72 Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 I am sitting here wondering how much to lower my mk1 escort 1" or 2", would anyone mind posting some pictures of your mk1 escorts that have been lowered 1" or 2" with some pros and cons for both .. I would be very interested to see and read your comments, as i need to buy some lowering blocks and front springs. mine will have 13" wheels and not sure of tyres yet but im thinking that i might go with a set of quite low profiles. can anyone help??? cheers guys
seaneylad Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 I used 2 inch blocks but didnt think it was low enough got single leafs now, going to see how it sits when its back together, if not get them de cambered to get it a little lower. Ill try find some pics on my break in work for you . 1
irishtorag Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 for some reason I cant get picture up but my car has single leaf springs 11/2" lowering blocks and I cut strut cups and rewelded 1" lower at front tyre size 175/70/13 tbh it would probably look lower on a 60 or 50 series tyre 1
SebringRS Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 Rear of mine is roughly -5", 2" blocks, and roughly 3" drop by "decambering" running 14" wheels though..... Front is -3" just with lowering springs Front height is being addressed over winter 2

I want mine lower, but don't want issues when I throw it round the lanes and odd track day. Cheers 1
seaneylad Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 Found a pic. 2inch block at back.. And Capri legs and lpowered springs at front Changing it all over winter but say okay 1
quickrack Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 I am 5" lower all round. It's very harsh so I am going to fit shorter inserts and I need a more progressive bumpstop in the rear Looks awesome tho 1
mk2 mike Posted December 29, 2014 Report Posted December 29, 2014 Id love to go lower but mines -2" on 50 profiles and it scrapes the ground everywhere I go. No idea how you guys run any lower! 3
seaneylad Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 I am 5" lower all round. It's very harsh so I am going to fit shorter inserts and I need a more progressive bumpstop in the rear Looks awesome tho not cause any problems? I wouldnt mind going lower than 2Inch not loads more, but dont want to cause an issue with a bad ride, or it being dangerous if your throwing the car about. May get my singles leags done -3inch and see how it sits, rather than the -2 blocks
SebringRS Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 Nah doesn't bottom out, fitted gaz adjustable rear shocks so its stiff (also to stop the wheels catching the arch on the rear) only thing that catches underneath is the shite fitting exhaust 1
quickrack Posted December 30, 2014 Report Posted December 30, 2014 Yep. Never ending exhaust woes here as well DSCI0144 by quickrack, on Flickr DSCI0141 by quickrack, on Flickr 2
Admin Vista Posted December 31, 2014 Admin Report Posted December 31, 2014 Quickrack, that's about as low as I've seen! Does the exhaust not catch on everything?
katana Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 Quickrack, that's about as low as I've seen! Does the exhaust not catch on everything? It would help if the exhaust clamp was rotated ! ! !
quickrack Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 Yes catches on everything. Clamp was rotated since. I had to move the manifold down pipe first tho as it has no clearance. I also put a skid on the silencer as it kept knocking it's self loose. Am also currently shortening a set of struts and fitting shortened inserts with better bumpstops, as the last 2 inches of drop took the ride quality away.
SmokeEm Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 I don't have a picture but my old MK2 Estate was as low or maybe a bit more. My exhaust used to rip itself off on a cats eye if I hit a bump whilst overtaking! That, mind you, was back in the late 80's and there were no speed bumps. Flinty remembers it well
442 Posted January 1, 2015 Report Posted January 1, 2015 Looks well mate, wish i could get a coke can stood upright under my cortina.......my sump is 60mm off the deck! Wince every time i see a newspaper in road lol 1

This might work OK rotated.
jbr39 Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 lowered 2" all round 190lbs springs on the font Rs de cambered leaf springs and 2" lowering block on the rear
mk2 mike Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 Quickrack, that's about as low as I've seen! ?
Ray Posted January 25, 2015 Report Posted January 25, 2015 none of you would survive some of the speed humps in southend, by 5 series BMW with m tech suspension bottoms out on a lot of them, im waiting to wipe out the sump or box one day
luckyjim Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 I make you right ,ray. Essex is the worst county in the uk for speed bumps.it is also the worst for having road repair closures with no proper lights or barriers, unless its the A127 or A13 then they go over the top with 15 miles of cones and lights.
quickrack Posted January 29, 2015 Report Posted January 29, 2015 I don't do speedbumps. I avoid them. Detour past them. Reverse away from them even. Got sick of being beached
