Hi,

What are the different rear drums you can get for an english axle please.

I know my car has '9 inch' drums, can you get different depth types? Are there any codes on brake components to indicate if they are 'wide' capri type ones or standard.

I'm not sure why but I seem to recall you can get deeper dished drum brakes? I could be talking rubbish however.

Hoping there are just 9 inch standard drums avalible and I can buy a set of these :D

Thanks,

Jon

Hmm not just me then. I've got a feeling the rear brakes are off a 3.0 capri, I think I did this as the brake pad area was larger...

I did have `74 capri mk2 3.0 drums 9 inch [cologne] , heavy ones and the backplate is also further to the diff [5mm].

And now i have capri mk3 3.0 drums [cologne] on mine escort mk1 with escort mk2 axle/pipe`s [cologne] , and they are thinner/lighter.

And the diff from a capri V6 cologne and at the moment capri mk1  half shaft , did i make a litte shorter and the splines longer.

These differents are also seen on the capri mk1 axle`s , i have them both.

And i am not sure if the backplate patern this 100% the same , from a escort cologne axle and a salisbury.

And if i am not wrong the centerhole/bearing is bigger from a salisbury axle.

might be of use to me, thanks mate will let you know.

Could someone please measure their brake pad width on their car? Bit of an ask I know but that might tell me if mine are wider than 'normal' RS ones?

Does anyone know the change of depth at all, maybe it's only like 5mm and 3.0 capri drums could be used on any car?

Thanks,

Hi Jon , i have the 3,0 capri mk3 drum on mine , but i almost sure that you will need to place a spacer between the drum and axle , becourse the off set from a escort is 5mm sorter than from a capri mk3 , ohterwise the drum comes against the back plate.

The drums with back plate from a mk1/2 capri can work , but need work done bolt pattern. bearinghole.

And then comes the wheel more to the out side 3mm , becourse the drum are thikker.

Hi,

I'm not sure I quite follow.

So you have 3,0 wide brakes on your car and have a spacer to use normal RS2000 9" drums?

I'm going to measure my existing drums, they were fine just one of them is slightly bent (see my other thread on wheel wobble).

I can't for the life of me remember if I have RS/3.0 capri rears though, I think its the later....

Cheers all

If the capri 9 inch drums are same as the rs2000 , i got them on the 1300 escort mk2 cologne axle , but i did need to use a spacer between the drums and halfshaft , if mine mind is right.

I will check it to night with picture.

Sorry to confuse you , but it must fit trommels with backplate capri mk3 3,0 on a escort mk2 RS2000 , but on a base model [small cologne diff]  i don`t think so.

Cheers mate.

I know the drums are the same, apart from the 3.0 ones I think are deeper...
