As some of you may have seen elsewhere on the forum I finally got back my Escort last weekend.

Bearing in mind I will be storing it in the garage for a while, while I do it up, should I cover it up when it's sat doing nowt?

I go in and out of the garage infrequently and the garage has a pucker door and is weather proof, but it will inevitably get dusty......But I've heard it said that keeping them covered tends to take the sheen off the paintwork....which obviously I've just had done.  And also what's a decent cover/ price to pay for a cover if someone does think it's the way to go?

I store my cars in a garage through the winter and do not cover them. I leave them with the doors closed but the windows open a little to let air circulate.

So my vote is not covered.

mine is in a proper cairoport air fed tent, because i found that even the expensive cover at £280.00 each dont do the car any favours, once loaded with dust when you take them on and off, and they arent easy to wash or have dry cleaned, the down side is that you need a big garage for the cairoport, so if you dont have room for the cairoport, expensive breathable cover every time, its better than left bare, but it was recomended to me not to cover the car till the paint was at least 3 months old

it may be that the environment i have them in is just very dusty, but thats what i found, and if you have a convertible, the covers leave the black hood looking the same colour as the cover

I agree not covered. I discovered it caused micro blisters in the paint so I don't bother now

that would explain so many cars like that at the shows

If its not wet uncovered, mine was left at a mate workshop whilst doing it, paint dust and stuff everywhere so it needed to be covered, it had almost like dirty marks on the 4 corners where the cover pulled and rubbed against it. They polished off with some g3 butits another thing to do! Anyway yeah uncovered

when i done my car i was working outside with it covered by a tilt, over time the laquer blistered off. when i got it back from the paint shop i just tucked it up in the garage and didnt touch it for 3 weeks, partly to let the paint harden and because i was sick of the sight of it from the stress of getting it to and from paint shop etc.

now i lay her up in october on spare wheels without a cover. come march/aprill it is covered in dust. i blow it off with an airline then wash it twice. first time very lightly to just dislodge dust - rinse- then proper wash/dry/polish.

never had any issues with paint blistering and always have coments at shows about "thats how a matalic job should look" etc.....
