Herr Doktor Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Does anyone know whether a centre console from a Mk2 Escort fits straight into a '68 Mk1 Escort with neither mod nor grief? I'm sure I tried ages ago but had a gear stick "issue" Cheers
Anthiron Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 Yeah they fit. Sort of. Shifter doesn't quite line up. EDIT: Oh and you will need to drill a couple of holes in the tunnel and mount brackets to attach it. Not sure if you count that as a "Mod" Nick

Anthiron Posted February 15, 2015 Report Posted February 15, 2015 My car has. 4 speed in it. And when it is in 2nd if you glanced at it you would think it was in neutral. It was in the car when I bought it and it isn't perfect but I don't hate it and it is a good place to put the stereo. I have a 1300gt console sitting around and might change it out down the track if I find a better way to mount the head unit.

I'm still unsure whether to get one though. I've seen quite a few on eBay that sell for £50 to £70. I guess I could buy one, try it if no good re-sell it

I found a picture from the for sale ad when I bought my Escort showing the console. The car is in 1st gear in the picture. The console i have for you is the same style but is missing the gear boot and has the open hole where there stereo head unit would be. It has a small hole on one side where someone has screwed something to the console but is in general OK condition. certainly not concourse hence the price

What I might do is use yours as a guide to see if it fits neatly. If it does and my gearstick doesn't snag I might spend some decent money on a repo one. I can then redistribute yours if somebody else needs one over here [or anywhere for that matter ] Or, if yours looks ok and I'm able to get a gear boot keep as-is. DT36 Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 I have recently adapted my console to take a battery switch. Very easy to drill with a hole cutter, then put an aluminium brace plate behind for strength.
