colr6 Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Quick question, do all RS 2 mk2s have stregthened strut top plates on them, ie extra panel on top?
dalmarshall Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Yes, and mexicos. 1600 sports and harriers dont 1
colr6 Posted August 31, 2015 Author Report Posted August 31, 2015 Thanks for that, reason seen RS 2000 on fleabay no strut top plates supposed low mileage lots paperwork. Original or not?
dalmarshall Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Red one? Broadstripe.....With no broad stripe. It has custom stripe Broadstripe has roll tops not fishnets. Strut tops as you say already I'd have to refer to the book for anoraks for anything else but that's what's obvious
colr6 Posted August 31, 2015 Author Report Posted August 31, 2015 Do they all come with colour coded bolts in the struts for an imaculate under bonnet, not as good as made out me thinks
dalmarshall Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Bonnet spring is red too, looks like it's had a cheap blow over
colr6 Posted August 31, 2015 Author Report Posted August 31, 2015 I'll stick with fancying the Aussie one which looks more authentic bit pricy but appears damn near original with its dirt and runs in paint nothing covered up! What do you think to that one?
dalmarshall Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 That looks ok but I'd rather go for the black pre custom one...uk car so it'll be more valuable and it seems pretty genuine and has the right bits on it. Could be a rust bucket though at 14750. When you can get a nice restored one for 20k I'd rather do that......but then that's because I couldn't weld or paint it myself!
dalmarshall Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Best thing to do if your looking for one is to join rallyesportescorts forum and buy the sporting guide to mk2 escorts by Dan Williamson. 1
colr6 Posted August 31, 2015 Author Report Posted August 31, 2015 The only thing I can't do is paint but I have a good painter, when you consider my anglia was a quick wag over and I could not tell anybody who painted it! Don't like buying other people's supposed restos. Rather pay a bit more for a good basis and crack on.
The Transplanter Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Dont touch the red "so called broad stripe"! Everything is wrong and its been re-shelled or rung Wrong nosecone Wrong Clocks Wrong Seats front & rear Wrong top mounts (should have large) Wrong Scuttle Panel Wrong Bootlid Wrong Centre Console Wrong Wheels (has laser) Probably find a lot more "wrongs" if there were some pics of the underside Some lucky owner is going to be the owner of a post 78 popular with a Pinto! You dont need to go on Rally sport Escorts website. Find an RS you like and then speak to the MK2 RS2 registrar @ the RS owners club to see what history they have on the vehicle 1

The Transplanter Posted August 31, 2015 Report Posted August 31, 2015 Both the Aussie & Black both have glass sunroofs fitted, a massive turnoff for me

Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted September 1, 2015 Moderator Report Posted September 1, 2015 Quick question, do all RS 2 mk2s have stregthened strut top plates on them, ie extra panel on top? Yes, and mexicos. 1600 sports and harriers dont In Australia all models had the strengthening plates. So if you bought a Mk1 or Mk2 1300L it would have them too. Both the Aussie & Black both have glass sunroofs fitted, a massive turnoff for me Yes the sunroof option was very popular option on RS2000s here in Australia. A large percentage of them seem to have them fitted. Of course the warmer weather here and the really clunky large and expensive Air Conditioning option did promote a greater desire for the sunroof but it seems more so in the RS2000 that other model for some reason. I think this stems from where the RS2000 fitted into our model lineup and the time of its introduction. Mk2 Escorts were released in 1975 just like in the UK however we didnt get the RS2000 model as you know it with the droop snout until 1979. From 1977 to that point the premier sports model were flat nosed 2lt cars that looked like UK Mexicos (named GS Rally Packs). The introduction of the RS2000 in 79 was really just a cosmetic upgrade to spice up the aging Escort image and flagging sales of the line. Mechanically they were no different to the flat nosed cars and in fact were heavier with the extra trim levels. With that youth appeal they were driving for I think that the sun roof options were pushed alot harder if not thrown in as a bonus on some sales as the Sunroof option is found in far greater numbers than in the Rally pack that preceded it. 1
