New escort shells

There was talk a few years back of complete re manufactured shells being made available soon, anyone know if this is still a possibility? So many of the panels are now available again for escorts surely it's on the horizon ?

I read an article in practical classics last month about the dvla writing to owners of historic vehicles telling them the car must be inspected to preserve it's historic status. it is to do with mainly bl / mg's etc for which you can buy new 'heritage' body shells, also cars which have had engine changes etc. the letter states that the vehicle cannot be sold or it's reg transferred until this inspection has taken place. there doesn't seem to be any set criteria for these letters to be sent out, so any owner of a historic vehicle, especially modified ones where the details have been disclosed to dvla could get one.

I suspect that this is in response to people acquiring v5's or vehicles that have been dormant for years and putting them on the road with so many new parts fitted, and the dvla are questioning the 'historic' nature of the vehicle in question.

check it out for yourselves it sounds a bit worrying to me!

Good stuff , interested to see what they are like and how much they are. Hope they are sensible money, I wonder what they will do to prices if a load of 'new' she'll suddenly appear on the market?!

I'd heard something about this too, more needless legislation no doubt to crack down on a problem that doesn't really exist!

Will they be standard shells or the strengthened one I wonder?

i think a lot will be  snapped up by the rally boys,as they tend to be rough on cars

The Irish government are trying to do the same thing regards old cars with modern engines

and also trying to change usage on classic tax etc for show use only. Now I know the way

round that is to have maybe three or four mini shows ie: stops during road runs but they will im sure

find another glitch in the law.

 

Personally I think its all to do with money and they view classic owners as having untold funds

so they will tap in on it, not the fact we spend large amounts including tax vat etc to buy parts

and tools to have cars in the first place . Soft targets for the money grabbing bureaucrats ...

 

They want a lower and upper class society and kill the middle class with taxes to get rid of them

I must admit I was surprised when they re-introduced the rolling tax exception again in the UK as well as the pre '60 MOT exception (not that im complaining!). The cynic in me wonders why they have done all this and what plans they have to screw over 'historic' vehicle owners in the future, at the end of the day you don't get anything for nothing in this life, and especially not in the UK!
