preacherman Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 This is my first post on this site , having recently purchased a mk2 escort more door. Ok , my car was an auto converted to manual running a pinto and type 9 - 5 speed. The base of the gear stick touches the hand brake release button , cant remember seeing it this close on my previous escorts (some 20 odd years ago). How can I get more clearance. Warm up the gear stick and bend it at the base ...is this possible Move the handbrake back by an inch or so Use a different gear stick Use a shorter handbrake if they would fit Thanks Neil
Admin Vista Posted January 5, 2016 Admin Report Posted January 5, 2016 The type 9 conversion moves the gearstick back, hence the interference issue you're having. A quick shift kit should address it as it shortens the throw of the gear stick.
jxke Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 +1 on quickshift, worked a treat in my old one
SmokeEm Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 As above. Get yourself a Quaife quickshift kit
HotRodMatt Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 I shortened the handbrake in my MK1 by chopping it open and taking a bit out of the rod and handle then welding it all back together, though you could try and find an Austin Maestro handbrake as I believe these are shorter and could help.
