colr6 Posted January 15, 2016 Report Posted January 15, 2016 What's the best sound proofing material. Have used the old hessian type before under carpets but don't really rate that is there any modern stuff out there that works?
khanlad Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 I got the sticky hard plastic things that heat up and mould to the floor, then had some foam stuff, similar to the stuff that goes under laminate flooring but slightly thicker, then carpet over that, like a church inside until you start it up!
theloudboy Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Sound proofing go to a car stereo shop and buy bitumen pads if u can get a tuning fork they are great for seeing where a panel resonance the most so will not have to put loads on your car and weigh it down I was into car stereo systems big time and that stuff is cheap and works really well
SmokeEm Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 I've always used builders self adhesive flashband Colin. Same as dynamat but a quarter of the price. Great inside doors and under carpets etc. Mind you, I obviously get it super cheap as we sell it where I work. Comes I rolls 4", 6" and 9" wide 2
robert maguire Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Hi Smoke Em , is that aluminium backed flashband?? or rubber/bitumen only?
SmokeEm Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 The one i use is a fake lead colour. Made by Evostik. Think its bitumen
colr6 Posted January 16, 2016 Author Report Posted January 16, 2016 Thanks for that smoke Em just been on screwfix site 10m x225mm only thirty smackers, couple of rolls can wallpaper nearly all the interior!
SmokeEm Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Shame we not closer. I only pay £10 a roll I think
katana Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Pretty sure mine is 300mm wide - I got a roll left when I did my escort! To spendy to post though!
jxke Posted January 16, 2016 Report Posted January 16, 2016 Dynamat is amazing but so expensive. I did my Escort with a roll of bitumen-backed stuff left over from work, but if you put it near anything hot it bloody stinks haha.
colr6 Posted January 17, 2016 Author Report Posted January 17, 2016 Is it best to do the whole floor and bulkhead or just bulkhead and tunnel. Will be putting original hessian type soundproofing over the top aswell then carpets on top. Did a job yesterday for a neighbour and guess what I got paid in ------two rolls of flashing ! Result!
SmokeEm Posted January 17, 2016 Report Posted January 17, 2016 I do the tunnel, bulkhead and parts of the floor too. If you have steel doors, I would put some inside there too. Stops vibration well. Make sure u don't cover drain holes
