smudger666 Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 Photos taken about 1990. Was powered by a 2 litre pinto. Twin bottle 3 stage nitrous system. Ran low 12s and used to lift the wheels and launch really well Most panels were fibreglass including the roof. Only the rear quarters and back panel were steel Most of the floor was aluminium 2
smudger666 Posted May 17, 2016 Author Report Posted May 17, 2016 And a picture just after it was painted and before the glass was put in You can see the wheel tubs and firewall, cage etc 1
BROWNY 1968 Posted May 17, 2016 Report Posted May 17, 2016 very nice, got any engine bay pics, and some engine specs ? cheers
smudger666 Posted May 18, 2016 Author Report Posted May 18, 2016 i will try to find an engine bay pic, not sure that i have any close ups ... didn't seem important at the time. has various different engine specs over the years. the final spec was ; All steel / forged pistons / total seal piston rings / ceramic coated pistons & ports / dry sump system / full race head with david vizard shaped inlet / exhaust ports . sorry can't remember cam spec / twin 50 carbs. MSD ignition system / crank triggered / wasted spark (no distributor) . RS500 block, wills rings. twin plate paddle clutch with a very heavy flightwheel ! (not light as you might expect) i think the flywheel was from an XR4x4 plus the trick 3 stage nitrous system - various jettings were tried

smudger666 Posted May 18, 2016 Author Report Posted May 18, 2016 Hi. I found some more pictures Sorry still no close ups of the motor
smudger666 Posted May 18, 2016 Author Report Posted May 18, 2016 Hi we sold it about 1992. But it was used only as a race car after about 1991 So the above dates regarding tax are about right
BROWNY 1968 Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 sounds like it was a bit mental with those engine specs can I ask what gearbox you were using ? cheers.
smudger666 Posted May 18, 2016 Author Report Posted May 18, 2016 Yes pretty mental. The gearbox was a borg warner t5. With standard internals. And never broke anything in it. The back axle / diff was an 8 inch ford. With 4.9 gears. We also tried a powerglide auto box. But that didn't work out very well I don't think there was enough torque in a high revving 4 pot
BROWNY 1968 Posted May 18, 2016 Report Posted May 18, 2016 proper weapon, just been on google, searching for pics of mk1 drag cars, cant find any of it thanks for sharing it with us cheers.
