NobbyClark Posted August 7, 2016 Report Posted August 7, 2016 Hi all. I thought I'd sign up as im a total Ford nut and although I don't actually have a old skool Ford, I think they are way cooler than modern Ford's!! I have a mk2 Mondeo which I've lowered, fitted Sierra Cossie wheels along with a stainless exhaust. I've also got a mk5 Escort saloon as a little project which is currently sat on the drive under a cover! I'd love a proper old Ford but I couldnt afford to buy one and restore it as I don't really have any skills to be able to do so (although I would love to learn how to!) and I couldn't afford for someone to do it for me. Cheers all - Nobby! 1
colr6 Posted August 7, 2016 Report Posted August 7, 2016 Welcome to the site, you never know an OSF might come your way one day
NobbyClark Posted August 7, 2016 Author Report Posted August 7, 2016 Welcome to the site, you never know an OSF might come your way one day Thanks a lot! I'm hoping to win the lotto so I can buy various old Ford's!!
NobbyClark Posted August 7, 2016 Author Report Posted August 7, 2016 Welcome to the site, you never know an OSF might come your way one dayThanks a lot! Bloody double post!!
khanlad Posted August 7, 2016 Report Posted August 7, 2016 Welcome to osf, there's ways into old Ford ownership, depends on your tastes 1
stephens_xpack Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 Welcome Nobby, Used to have a V6 Ghia X mk2 as a family scoot, nice cars, a little juicy but nice driving. Some OSF's are still attainable depending on model and condition.
NobbyClark Posted August 12, 2016 Author Report Posted August 12, 2016 Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!! If I did find a cheap old skool Ford, I wouldn't have the knowledge to restore it unfortunately. I've always wanted to learn though and I'd love to help restore someone's car so I could learn that way! Stephens_xpack - I see you are a fellow Essex boy!! Where abouts in Essex are you? Is that your Lovely Capri too??
colr6 Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 Everyone has to start somewhere, you would be surprised how many people are self taught on restoring/ repairing cars.

NobbyClark Posted August 12, 2016 Author Report Posted August 12, 2016 i take it you are going to Battlesbridge call ford day on sunday then I'm going and I'm really looking forward to it!! Are you going?? If so, are you taking the Escort in your sig??
Ray Posted August 12, 2016 Report Posted August 12, 2016 im going, the escort in the sig is in the process of resto unfortunately, see 1300E resto 2 in restorations, ive only just started it TBH also see 1300E resto, this ones finished i wont be taking it, purely because this will be my first time at all ford day at Battlesbridge, as normally we are on holiday, so, i really want to have a relaxing day walking around rather than being worried about some herbert damaging it or putting a tracker on it may take it in September tho
NobbyClark Posted August 12, 2016 Author Report Posted August 12, 2016 Wow Ray!! Your blue 1300E resto is incredible!!!! Tackleberry Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 Welcome Nobby, sell the mondingo and escort then put it towards an OSF. You'll be surprised but you can buy a reasonable "useable work in progress" if you scout about. And for help or information, you're on the right forum. The guys and girls on here are the font of all useful knowledge....and some useless knowledge too..but that's an age thing, hence the smell of mothballs and deep heat. There's never a stupid question, if you don't ask, you won't find out... Enjoy. 1
NobbyClark Posted August 16, 2016 Author Report Posted August 16, 2016 Thanks for the warm welcome Tackleberry. I'd love a OSF as my daily but although im a total car (Mainly Ford) nut and have been since I can remember, I have no mechanical skills!! I'm the only car mad person I know other than a very good friend of mine who lives in France, so I've never been around people who I could learn those skills with/from. Im only 38 but if I had my time again, I'd finish school and do an apprenticeship in mechanics!! Just for argument's sake, which OSF would be ideal for the beginner, which is also big enough for a family?? Cheers
Tackleberry Posted August 16, 2016 Report Posted August 16, 2016 Something like a MK5 Cortina? Reliable Pinto engine, easy to work on, 4 doors, big boot and you'll not need to sell the family jewels to buy one. You'll need a second mortgage for an old skool escort, Capri being a 3 door make it a bit of a faf as a family car, Anglia too small..so Cortina would get my vote.

Great thanks Tackleberry, a Cortina is a great idea!
