Was thinking new tank but I bet they're not on the shelf at my local motor factors lol!!

You could try one of the fuel tank cleaner and restore fluids, normally used for leaking tanks where it coats the inside of tank and seals it

Had a quick look around on the net, there not cheap and most only go up to 4/12 gal so not enough really. One thing I did find to use as a rust remover and neutraliser VINIGAR. That's a lot cheaper and got to worth a try.

Does it come with full instructions an COSHH sheets as I'm a stickler for doing things according to health and safety recommendations haha!!!!

Think I would chuck some in along with a chain or lots of nuts and bolts, do a few strickly come dancing moves empty then refill swill around and see what it turned out like. Might be a trial and error on how long it needs to be soaked to get a result, wouldn't go out after doing it unless it's to the local chippy can imagine you will retain the smell for a while !!

Use a rust removing solution ideally enough to fill the tank or submerge it then give it a good rise job done, we have a large tank in are workshop put rusty crap in leave it for a couple of days and it eats all the corrosion.

Search for janitol altrans or phosphoric acid rust treatment/remover will give you an idea of the stuff, some of the ones you can get can be watered down to make a larger quantity it's about £20 for 5ltr.

This is the kit I have (not used it yet).  https://www.amazon.co.uk/por-15-fuel-petrol-sealant/dp/B000H9K4JQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1475869981&sr=8-2

You'll like the COSHH sheet. The state of California believes components of the kit causes cancer.

A friend had a cortina that someone had used this stuff in the tank don't know how long it had been in there but the coating broke down and ended up sticking to the valves until it got to the point they wouldn't close.

I've heard if you don't move it around enough and it gets a thick later it can cause problems.
