MK1 ESCORT FULL WIRING LOOM

Hi guys, Im looking for a complete loom, the earlier the better, not fussed about the condition as long as its all there as I have a spare to work with. Let me know what you have.

There are a couple of companies that make new looms for the Mk1 - worth a shout as using a 40+ year old loom is a gamble re condition!

Thanks Katana, I have been told a few times thats the best option, may look into it though it would be a shame from keeping the car original.

If you go down the route of getting a new loom , be very careful , from personal experience I would " Not " go to AutoSparks !! . They were expensive , didn't do what they said they would when I met their rep at the Nec Classic car show , which was using all the original connectors off of the old loom that I sent to them and when new loom turned up there was no labels on any of the wires as promised I only had an engine bay loom made as well , and I was charged £220 at the time !!! . I had to take the loom to work and put all the original connection blocks on myself as the bullet style ones they used on the fuse board connections You couldn't fit the clear plastic cover over as they were too big on diameter , I e-mailed then to complain and got no reply . Take your money and run!!!! Was how it seemed to me , no customer care !!!!.. I Was not happy to say the least !!! .

So I would try and restore an original loom or make one yourself .

I would consider making your own, going on what people have said you don't get oe plugs on a retro harness so you've nothing to lose. As that is the problem of making your own it's the plugs you can't get. If you want oe plugs the use original or convert to aftermarket ones. Just takes time and patience, if you've got a loom to copy it's a lot easier. If not get your wiring diagram blown up to building drawing size (A0) makes them far easier to read and follow. There is enough info on the net for the calculations on wire sizes.

Thanks for this advice, I dont really want to go down the new loom route as my plan with the car is to keep nearest to an original MK1 as possible so Im currently sourcing original parts to use. I understand the safety issues reg an old loom but I have a good friend who's an electrical engineer to look over it and test it once fitted. I have heard good and bad about autosparks and noticed they do sell complete new looms. I have an original Escort workshop manual to work to so Im wondering wether to give it a go myself. I do have a Loom but my Mk1 is a South African import so as you can imagine its on a bit of a state!!

I think this may be an option if I cant source a good used one. I have an original ford workshop manual with fold out wiring loom digrams which are near A2 size and really good to use. Thanks for your advice, its really appreciated!!

If you get stuck, try Escort Tec for a loom. Or if you're going to CFS you may pick one up there. It's really best to view a used loom though as condition can vary greatly according to what kind of life it's had.

Thanks for the reply Vista, Ill give Escort Tec a call, yeah Im trying to avoid buying one thats as bad as my South African one, how the cars not been left in an ashes pile is beyond me!!
