Absolutely spec will make a difference.

In my experience, being an NGK fan, I would say....

NGK BP6ES for GT tune

NGK BP7ES for faster road (i.e. Kent 234 Cam 10.5 compression)

NGK BP8ES for Race / Rally

There is a 9 available, I have never been there, but I know HT Racing make adapters so they can fit 9's in their Pinto's so there is an example of when you might need to be running 9's.

Very high compression and high revs need cooler plugs. Your engine will be safer if you start with a cooler plug (higher number and work towards the lower number if they soot up - assuming your fueling / timing is correct)

Avoid those accuspark 3 electrode type shite.

I have a set of the iridium ones from Accuspark for a Pinto engine. They have sat on the tool box for months and been too scared to fit them.

IMO there is no point in using the Iridium thin tip plugs unless you run a lean burn EFI system, your ignition system is piss poor or you never want to change plugs for at least 50,000 miles............cos that's what they were designed for! Also NEVER use in a turbo engine as they encourage detonation like you wouldn't believe!
