oldwheels Posted April 15, 2018 Report Posted April 15, 2018 Hello, Can anyone in Cornwall help me out with a reasonable priced Ford Type E Gearbox to suit Pinto, thanks
oldwheels Posted May 19, 2018 Author Report Posted May 19, 2018 Still looking, if out of the area could you send ? thanks
oldwheels Posted June 24, 2018 Author Report Posted June 24, 2018 What happened to all those MK3,4,5 2.0 Cortina's?
Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 Its strange you haven't had any become available most seem to swap them out for Type 9's. Something will come up im sure.
eeb43 Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 the stock car boys use the 2.0 4 speed £150 each as many as i can find
fiestachaser Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 Got a mk3 1.6 xl recon box .no bellhousing £50 with gear stick if you want to arrange courier?
oldwheels Posted June 24, 2018 Author Report Posted June 24, 2018 Thanks for the offer of 1.6 box, Needs to be a 2.0 box to match 2.0 pinto, thanks
katana Posted June 24, 2018 Report Posted June 24, 2018 The 1.6 pinto boxes will be identical to the 2.0L boxes - only the Sierra ones are different by having an integral bellhousing, gear ratio's are shared by all

oldwheels Posted June 25, 2018 Author Report Posted June 25, 2018 That is right 1.6 pinto box is a type 3 box input shaft 7/8" x 20 spline, 2.0 pinto box input shaft 1" x 23 spline, reason I do not have mine rebuilt is I do not have one, I am fitting 2.0 pinto in a MK2 and am waiting on the box, did not really want a five speed. As I said I find it strange not many years ago the yards were full of scrapped rusty Cortina's,
katana Posted June 25, 2018 Report Posted June 25, 2018 So this is all bollux then? ...... http://www.burtonpower.com/tuning-guides/tuning-guide-pages/ford-type-e-gearbox-guide.html
andrew james Posted June 26, 2018 Report Posted June 26, 2018 Yeah it’s incorrect. Only escort box’s have integral bell housing 11 and 1300 are the same 1600 sport Mk2 and 1300 gt/sport mk 1 have have different ratios and can be identified by having a solid tail housing
katana Posted June 26, 2018 Report Posted June 26, 2018 But those are all x-flows? so not what was being talked about.
andrew james Posted June 26, 2018 Report Posted June 26, 2018 Integral bell housing type . pinto or cortina/rs 2000 type e or Sierra type 9 4 speed have separate bell housing I hope that clears my comment up cheers
Rally Pack 2000 Posted June 26, 2018 Report Posted June 26, 2018 I never did understand the swap and change for different gearboxes in the MK2 lineup in the UK. Here they put the Type E in everything. 1.3 and 1.6 Crossflows and 2.0L Pintos. One gearbox for all, no mucking around on the production line and easy to keep one set of parts. I cant imagine it saves much money in the long run using a slightly weaker box for lower powered engines once you factor in extra production costs and parts storage and the like.
PeterMEscort Posted June 26, 2018 Report Posted June 26, 2018 Ford Australia did a wonderful job with the long list of technical and structural improvements and vehicle options they chose to implement on the Australian built Mk2 Escort, compared to the Euro models.
oldwheels Posted June 27, 2018 Author Report Posted June 27, 2018 Could you put on a pallet and send to Cornwall? thanks
oldwheels Posted June 28, 2018 Author Report Posted June 28, 2018 Re Flywheel yes I have got one not the best, what have you got, cost?
andrew james Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 I’ve got a 2.0 and 1600 ones . Not sure on price? Swaps??
caprimk1v4 Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 Hi, I am going to both Hertfordshire and Cornwall in the next 3 weeks, if "OLDWHEELS" wants to sort out with "MATT 74" I can collect and pay for the gearbox and "OLDWHEELS" can pay me and everyone is happy, not 100% sure on the dates, but I am collecting an engine from Hertfordshire and will be dropping off some parts I have sold to a guy who runs a body shop in Cornwall. So I could pick up a gearbox and drop it off, call it a pint and I am happy. Let me know what you want to do. Cheers Al. 2
oldwheels Posted June 28, 2018 Author Report Posted June 28, 2018 That would be very helpful and much appreciated, where abouts in Cornwall are you going?
