So... very early doors on my Mk2 Grp5 Zakspeed build but got round to thinking of engines..

Was going down the normal route of Cosworth (maybe millington) YB but not sure i want a Turbo engine,  looking for something a bit different.

Has anyone considered the S65 V8 from an M3?? If its an early version it'll come with a standard manual gearbox.

I know it's comparatively heavy but i'll be cutting the firewall and getting any engine i fit to go as far back as possible..

Loads have been transplanted into other BM's but i can't find anything on one into an escort, It may not even be possible.. although anything is if you throw enough money and tech skill at the problem.

I'm not a purist on this project as 50% is being cut out anyway

Thoughts??

Have you looked at the Lexus/Toyota UZ V8? They seem to be getting swapped into a few things these days. A friend of mine has one in an old GMC pickup and says it's a nice motor. I don't know what the tuning stuff is like though.

a fella near me has just built a mk2 with a little eco boost engine, think its a 1.0. weighs as much as a fag packet and he's turbo'd it and runs over 300hp. im not one for crappy little engines or turbos. but good power and weighs as much as a type 9.

You might want to give him a warning

No sorry overstressed 1.0L doesn't do it for me!

I need a V8 in my life!

Have done a little research into the M3 motor and it is quite tall but it might just go with minimal bonnet work...

There's a few fitted to E30 BM's (check out YouTube) and the sound is awesome, also been speaking to a few guys regarding standalone ECU's and they can even still use the DCT gearbox which would be fun.
