I just watch Episode 5 of Season 7 of Car SOS that featured a Peugeot 504 cabrio, I have never seen or heard of this model before. Being based on the 504 it would make it an easy platform for parts. Who would have though dual rectangular headlights could look so good. Anyone know much about them or are they so rare that probably will never see one in my lifetime?

They're pretty rare over here but you do see them from time to time. Like all 60's /70's cars in our climate though, they rust like nothing on earth.

There's a rare RHD one being restored for sale in Ireland here

That's really nice, One of the nicest looking French cars I have ever seen. There needs to be a thread in the Chit Chat section to talk about other classics that take our fancy, im sure we arent all exclusive to Ford. I remember one prominent Alfa owner on the forum for example.

Agreed, be my guest to start one. I am partial to an Avenger Tiger, Lotus Sunbeam, Mk1 Astray GTE and a TR6 (plus many others) so am quite happy to have other marques discussed

Funny you should mention the Lotus Sunbeam (of which I am partial also) episode 6 the one directly after the 504 of this last season Car SOS is a Black Lotus Sunbeam. One guy driving Tim around in a rally example makes the comment "Better than an Escort in every way!" damn cheek!!

 Mk1 Ashtray GTE

There - corrected it for you LOL!

The guys in my office always had a varied collection of what we'd now call classics - one had 2 E type Jags both 3.8 Coupe's, another had a Datsun 240Z then a 911 SC, one had an obsession with Triumph GT6's, another had a 2.0L Vitesse (which he still has - bought it when he was 16 and now he's over 50!) The Boss always had Astons - a V8 Vantage, a DB6, a DB5 and a DB2/4 (all gone now bar the 2/4 which just finished restoration last year after at least 30 yrs!) ...... Me I was happy with my '78 mk2 RS2000 Black on Black) and then a 1968 Cooper 'S' but so many i'd like to have, or at least a try of - any 911 aircooled, but in particular a 2.7 RS Carrera.

😆. Back when they were around I couldn't afford a GTE but did own the 1.6SR. Both were a cracking little FWD hatch with great handling. The Mk2 GTE though? Not so much.

Seen here proudly cleaning / polishing it as an 18 year old in 1988.

I had a MK1 Silver Astra GTE in 89/90. Was a nice quick car. I can remember putting new front tyres on it one Saturday morning and had to go back into the same garage the next day for another new set. 😈

Quick car back in its day.

You mentioned Car Sausage (SOS) and it made me think I hadn't seen a new episode in a while so I looked up if any new episode had been made since I last watched and there was a whole new season I hadn't seen! Not only that but Episode 9 of Season 7 is a Mk1 Escort Mexico! No one has mentioned this before? You guys normally post about these things as that's the only way I learn about them as they are never shown on TV here and have to download them. Did someone post and I missed it?

It never ceases to amaze me how cars so far gone and terminal get restored over there in the UK. I can safely say that In all my years every Escort I ever seen at a breakers yard here (and that's hundreds) were all better condition than that Mexico! They literally changed every panel except the roof. No wonder you keep nicking ours!

This restoration may be of interest to a couple of active threads here at the moment. The car is Daytona Yellow (regularly talked about lately) and it was given Red Striping. I never would have considered red and always default to the conventional black stripes but the red really looks great. Totally unexpected!

The other segment that would be of great interest is that Tim goes to Magnum panels and you see their workshop and the pressing of Escort Panels. Its not often some of the side segments are so relevant.

If you cant watch the whole season this episode is well worth the watch.

One cheat though, the Blue Mk1 they test drive during the course of the show isn't a Mexico. I came across an interactive video on Youtube and that car is actually a Zetec.

I saw this episode and did not understand why they put holes in front end if they later covered them with the license plate. nonsense.

I got the idea that blue was one of Fuzz Townshend car.

I was going to post about that very thing! At Magnum panels they are told that the holes have to be there for a genuine Mexico and then cover them up with the number plate?

In their Youtube video they admit its a Ztec in the first few seconds and not a Mexico at all.

So far, as I'm aware, the list of Ford escort featured tv car shows are:

Wheeler Dealers - S10E02

For the Love Of Cars - S01E01

Car SOS - S07E09

Mk2

Wheeler Dealers - S14E05

Top Gear - S27E01

Im just watching a show that was mentioned called "Salvage Hunters - Classic Cars". Its the first time watching the show but I had seen the same guy doing an antique dealers show. Im starting late so the episode I watched was the first of the second season with a Mk3 Capri and a Lancia Delta Integrale. I'm guessing its meant to be a rival to Wheeler Dealers. They don't show much of the restoration at all so it don't expect to learn anything from the show and the Drew Pritchard fellow doesn't strike me as the motor head he makes himself out to be. The Capri came out alright but wrapping the Lancia in full rally livery just to cover up the scatty paint I thought was really really dodgy. Definitely prefer For the Love of Cars or Car Sossage but the opportunity to see classic cars on the telly is simply going to get my attention regardless of the format. I will watch a few more episodes before passing final judgement though

Wheeler Dealers also did a Mk2 RS2000 (although I dont think it was genuine) on Season 12 Episode 14 and Season 16 Episode 1 was a Mk2 Mercury Capri

Pretty much the only classic car related media worth bothering with these days is the Barn Find Hunter series on Youtube with Tom Cotter as hosted by Hagerty.

https://youtu.be/hRMAQj0yA44

There is zero bullshit or fake drama in the vids. Even the clickbait titles aren't just clickbait, they actually do find incredibly awesome classics!

Thanks 👍

I didn't really start watching Wheeler Dealers till after it had been running for ten years as its not really shown here but this week I was able to get the first ten seasons and am only on season one. there was an episode where he sold a restored Mk1 Golf GTi for 1500 quid and was pleased with the 400 profit he had made. I laughed and laughed, how much is one of them worth these days? Bet he would make a bit more than 400 pounds profit now!

By the time you get to season 10 you'll be cringing at "'old out yer 'and!!"

Still enjoy watching it mind, even if it has gone a little sceptic tank.

The American episodes with Ant Anstead were the first full seasons I ever watched. I had only seen half a dozen episodes prior to that which you guys here mentioned had an Escort or Capri in them. I was a bit confused by the American move, still am if im honest but beggars cant be choosers with the few classic car shows that I can get on TV.

I do find myself fast forwarding past him screwing them down on price and the hold out your hand bit especially when he has just said into the camera that the car is cheap as it is but he wants to get more out of them. That part makes me cringe.
