Rally Pack 2000 Posted October 31, 2019 Author Report Share Posted October 31, 2019 It seems they dont want me to have too much say over how and what gets repaired but I have warned them that I want to see the work in progress not the finished covered up end result. I have basically bought all the parts with my own money, ordered a new bumper and bolts from the UK and Col is getting the mounting brackets for me as the ones that they sell with the bumpers dont have the captive bolts like original. I will basically dump the parts on them when they all arrive and they can make their case why they wont use the parts and compensate me over what they want to do. I will no doubt loose out in some things so will just have to wear the price of the parts and keep them as spares. But it seems like the only way to get them to use proper replacement parts is if I put them in their lap so they don't have the effort of running around with them. Rally Pack 2000 Posted November 5, 2019 Author Report Share Posted November 5, 2019 Bumper arrived today! 4 Days from the UK that was pretty impressive. Other parts I ordered that fit into a padded bag from Perth (The one in Australia) took 6 days. I can get things quicker from the UK these days than I can my own family in the country! So a credit to Motorsporttools there who also had the cheapest shipping costs. which was 48 quid. They are made in Taiwan. The fit and finish is pretty good all things considered but it not as solid as the Ford Originals. The Taiwanese ones are 1.6mm thick whereas the original is 2mm. An original is a good half a kilogram heavier. So the decision is do I get them to try repair the original or do I accept a thinner replica? Rally Pack 2000 Posted November 7, 2019 Author Report Share Posted November 7, 2019 On my Mk2 there are bumper spaces that slide over the bolts in between the bumper and the car body. With mine there are long spacers at the front and shorter ones at the back. Yet when you buy a set of bumper bolts the spacers they provide are all the same length? Anyone else noticed this? I would hate to think how long it would take if it was my fault or the other party didn't accept blame immediately. They tried everything they could to cut costs though. They seemed more interested in helping the other insurance company rather than their customer of 35 years. While the after market bumpers looked good I didn't find the gauge of steal as thick as original the Ford ones but they still do look the part. Col was kind enough to get a set of rear bumper brackets from the Works Escort Ebay seller and what I found was these were of really high quality equal to the Ford ones. The captive nut was more domed but in no way lessened its quality just different. Some of the bumper brackets I saw didn't have a captive nut at all so these were well priced and OEM quality. So I definitely recommend the brackets from the Works Escort and have always had good luck with their stuff. 2 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Was getting a bit anxious I would get the car back with all the businesses shutting down for the duration, so glad its back home now sporting its new bumper and repairs. The starter solenoid is really bad now for sitting idle for so long so the starter has to come out this weekend.
