meXEco Posted September 9, 2020 Report Posted September 9, 2020 Does anyone use lay up insurance and if so what sort of prices are you paying? I know there's a lot of factors to take into account just wondering if I should do it as I have a mk2 Golf GTi which is currently stored in a mates barn that he rents just outside my little village which is not habited ie there's an old farmhouse which is in disrepair he rents the barn for car work/storage etc. his missus rents the fields for her horses so they pop over there regularly. Just worried it could get nicked or torched etc. and if it's only like £100 to get cover I probably should get it as thinking if i'm not driving it the cover should be quite a bit lower? Anyone done this cheers.
Huge Posted September 9, 2020 Report Posted September 9, 2020 Sorry no not had ‘lay up’ insurance but I did insure my Daisy fully comp a couple o years ago with Lancaster when I had her stored in similar circs to you & they were very helpful & great price.....surely you gotta Insure it you would rest easier 👍 1
Monza Posted September 9, 2020 Report Posted September 9, 2020 Cost me £40ish to lay-up my nearly completed mk1...couple of years ago. Give any classic ins a call. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk 1
meXEco Posted September 9, 2020 Author Report Posted September 9, 2020 Wow that seems a good price and deffo worth it for peace of mind. It will be getting partially stripped at some point for welding work etc. which will make it harder for potential nicking but it has a lot of sentimental value to me being a late mate's pride and joy. Just covering for fire/theft.
Ray Posted September 9, 2020 Report Posted September 9, 2020 I had it on my purple one while it was being restored, bear in mind the price will be dependant on lots of factors tho, mainly, value, place its stored, and the storage security, and the latest thing theyre all over with most classic vehicle insurances now, is how often do you visit the car, but as said above, mine was cheap as chips, but it was in a locked and alarmed building and they wanted photos of it also, laid up insurance does not get put on the mid database, so you defo cant drive a car on the road with it 1
meXEco Posted September 9, 2020 Author Report Posted September 9, 2020 It's in a small locked barn behind a locked metal gated lane. The renters visit regularly to feed and tend their horses so will be every couple of days if not every day. Obviously won't be driving it. Conservatively valued at £2500 i may up this though. Just done a quick online quote for £51 with Flux but will need to call and confirm everything but for a quid a week I think i'll be doing it cheers chaps.
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted September 9, 2020 Moderator Report Posted September 9, 2020 I have never heard of "Lay Up Insurance" before so my mind went a number of different directions till I read what it actually was LOL 1
Monza Posted September 9, 2020 Report Posted September 9, 2020 Had mk1 on laid-up for 5 months then upgraded to fully comp and paid the difference. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk 1
