Nobbly Posted January 20, 2021 Report Posted January 20, 2021 Hi All, Just joined this friendly place as owner of two Escort RS1600i's - not quite old enough, but it's a matter of time right? Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted January 20, 2021 Moderator Report Posted January 20, 2021 Welcome to the forum. As a fan Of 205 GTis yet never having Mk3s available here I have always been curious how does a 1600i compared to a 205Gti? Never thought I would ever find someone who owns both to ask but have wondered for decades!
notenoughtime Posted January 20, 2021 Report Posted January 20, 2021 Hi and welcome nice collection of cars you have 1

Never thought I would ever find someone who owns both to ask but have wondered for decades! Well I am of a certain age and had a mk3 RS1600i and two S1 RS Turbos (working in a Ford dealership who wouldn’t!) back in the day, but never had a 205. I bought this one one a bit of a whim and in boxes, but it is a little cracker. I think the RSi looks way better, but A-B the 205 (mine is a 1.6) would probably edge it and even if it was a dead heat, the 205 pilot would have had a much easier time keeping it between the hedges. The 1.6 in the Pug is soooo revvy as well, mine was newly built and has a few thousand miles on it now so has just loosened up nicely. In my opinion, the problem with an RSi is they look faster than they are and the brakes (on a right hand drive one) are at best bad at worst awful! All that said though, I just love mk3 Escorts and I always will. Of those the RS1600i is the best of the bunch, especially the interior. My turbo’d RS is what they should have been from new 👍 1

Cuili1 Posted January 21, 2021 Report Posted January 21, 2021 That’s a cracking line up of classics (I use that word loosely, as I have a few that are 10 years newer that could be called classics now) 😁
