Hi All,

Well having sold my MK1 Escort at the weekend (a few pics below) i am looking to start a new build but really wanted some advice form the forum.

The one I have just sold was solid and most of the body work was done before i purchased it i then made upgrades to brakes, Cibies, braided lines etc...  It was running on a pinto knocking out circa 170 bhp which was great but i want to move to a more modern engine say an uprated Ztec at about 200 - 210 bhp.

The new car will be for road use and NOT rallying.

Ideally i am looking for someone that can do the bodywork and mechanics or one for the bodywork and another partner for all of the mechanics. What I dont really want to do is have 4 or 5 people involved.

I am thinking going for a bubble arch, silver with dark grey decals, running a Ztec on standard axle with LSD, uprated brakes all round, type 9 gear box, alloy tank in the boot with the fuel pump, stripped interior, firewall, bucket seats etc....

So has anyone got nay suggestions for the following please?

1. Body work and pint job - i am a perfectionist so i dont expect to pay peanuts

2. Anyone that can do the mechanical rebuild - I think RS North West did the work on my old one but they dont seem to around anymore.

3. Where would you suggest for the engine (i dont mind buying a new one v reconditioned). Had a look at Dunnels and they seemed pretty good at around £6k.

4. If it were you would you buy a knacker and start again or buy something decent and strip it?

Any advice or recommends would be very much appreciated.

Hi Andy.

Looks like a nice car that you have just sold, might I ask why you didn't just change the Pinto in that for a newer engine?

yes it was a cracker but tbh i wont to go in a different direction in terms of body shell and did not want to change what is a solid car. Plus after 6 year just fancied a change.

That's fair enough.

A silver bubble arch with grey decals should look the business.

I'm sure you will pick up lots of good referrals here to help you build the new toy

The one you sold looked a corker m8!!!
Sure you'll find there are a lot of good builders around but Graeme at GS Escorts puts out some good stuff and will work with you to get what you want. Based in Runcorn. Don't know about his prices but quality doesn't come cheap.

Cheers Hammer appreciate the nod.  Yes she was a corker but it just felt the right time to let it go and start something new. The truth is that is that she was just too good to be messed with. She's gone to a good home and i am sure will be looked after well.
