Brenda1978 Posted November 12, 2022 Report Posted November 12, 2022 A mate in work had a chevy flat head truck, straight six. No wiring at all. He would like to get it started and then get it wired properly next year. It's got an alternator on it. Anyone help with a simple diagram on starting n charging
Miniliteman Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 Google "ignition wiring points".

colr6 Posted November 13, 2022 Report Posted November 13, 2022 Basically put into 3 systems, supply ie battery, ign and charging. 1) battery= pos battery to solenoid other side of solenoid to starter. Battery neg to earth. Check engine also has from block to earth all in battery cable. 2) ign = you can either take a supply from batt pos or on solenoid they’re maybe two spade connectors, one spade is to operate the solenoid for starting and the other will be live all the time, easily checked once battery connected. If only one spade that’s the switch connection to operate solenoid. So go with one spade on solenoid = take a supply wire from battery feed on solenoid to switch. From switch to pos on coil and neg on coil to dizzy. 3) charging = on rear of alternator will be poss two large spade connectors and one small, large spade in 60 amp wire to battery feed on solenoid or poz on battery. Small spade on alternator goes to a warning light non LED from light to switched live side of your already installed ignition switch. From your battery supply side of ign switch take a wire to a start push button and the other side of push button to spade on solenoid which will operate it engaging starter. thinks that about it 🫣 2 1
Brenda1978 Posted November 18, 2022 Author Report Posted November 18, 2022 Apparently it has started. Thanks for the advice
