Johnny Boy Posted October 25, 2023 Report Posted October 25, 2023 Quick question, I'm fitting new track control arms to my mk2 van. Is there supposed to be a tube that goes though the std bush, onto the anti roll bar, to stop you over tightening the nut. Mine does not have , and I can just keep tightening way past the split pin to castellated nut . Something is not right. Any idea's?
Nige65 Posted October 25, 2023 Report Posted October 25, 2023 Yes, there should be a tube inside the rubber bush to prevent overtightening, you can normally tell if one is fitted as the split pin hole should line up with castellation's on the nut once tightness has been achieved.
Miniliteman Posted October 25, 2023 Report Posted October 25, 2023 Yes. See photo in the link (these are polybushes but idea is the same). https://www.burtonpower.com/outer-tca-bush-set-escort-mk1-2-capri-sf0420kss.html
Johnny Boy Posted October 25, 2023 Author Report Posted October 25, 2023 Thanks for the quick reply, I'm putting all the front end back together, and it just didn't look right. The tubes must have been lost somewhere in South Africa 😬 Any one know where I can get some tubes from, other than buying a set of poly bushes. I have new arms with new rubber bushes, but no tubes 🙄
Johnny Boy Posted October 25, 2023 Author Report Posted October 25, 2023 Or does anyone know the tube size, or can measure one they have in there box of bits, I could make something up perhaps ?
Miniliteman Posted October 25, 2023 Report Posted October 25, 2023 My NOS one for a Mk2 RS2 is: length = 30,5 mm, outer dia = 19,0 mm, inner dia = 16,0 mm. Maybe this one could fit: https://www.gartrac.com/collections/escort-mk1-escort-mk2-front-suspension/products/escort-mk1-mk2-twin-cam-roll-bar-sleeve-bush
Johnny Boy Posted October 25, 2023 Author Report Posted October 25, 2023 (edited) Great, I have some thin wall tube, in my usfull box. Just happens to be 19mm od 16mm Id. Thanks very much for the quick info, I'm actually doing the job right now 🙃 I guessed at 34mm looking at the nut and hole for the split pin. I might try that, and check the caster. As I have just fitted lowering springs of minus 2 inch, it will have more caster now. Edited October 25, 2023 by Johnny Boy
Johnny Boy Posted October 26, 2023 Author Report Posted October 26, 2023 (edited) That should be less caster And the bush length will have no bearing on the caster Edited October 26, 2023 by Johnny Boy

If the anti roll bar is pointing down. And it gets lower by the minus 2 springs, surely the arc of the anti roll bar getting flatter, means the bottom of the strut is pushed back, meaning less castor from the upright , and more camber . I'm confused
