Its a perfectly fair assessment. They were just trying to add local content for tax concession purposes but that great lump of an engine meant for a Falcon destroyed the handling of them as it shifted engine weight forward in front of the wheels. They were terrible around corners. They weren't even all that quick, In my hoon days I raced one with 4 people in my Mk2 Escort and flogged him still. So in answer to @Vistaquestion, the South African ones would have these straight 6 things eating its dust. The article was right we ruined a good car. Barely any exist these days, at shows every one has a V8 in it now with something sticking out of the bonnet.

al cortina's from the mk2 upwards have crap handeling, doesn't matter witch engine is in it, they do ride good at a bangerrace, they do last a while,

UNLESS you change the bushes for uprate ones, lowered and stiffer springs and ajustable shocks, a mate of mine has an estate cortina from 77 with a 2 litre 4 banger in it, witch has those things,

and i have to say, i am still surprised that the car runs so good, and handels good, it's not a racecar, but a very good sportscar, with some work you could make a good car for not so much money, my 2 cents on the subject, where is my beer, cheers marcel

Back in the day, way back, Ford sent out a handful of 2.8i V6's to the Police for evaluation, we didn't get one as we were a piss poor ragtag county, but I met an acquaintance from another force on a course. He told me he had just had his Police licence suspended the week before, attending an early hours alarm in the rain he parked one backwards next to the sweet counter in Woolworths.  They were not a success.
