Miniliteman Posted May 25, 2025 Report Posted May 25, 2025 Hello, is there a (proven) simple but effective way to clean the fabric of seats? Seats have been stored for some time and are a bit grubby. Want to clean them up so that I can use until I saved enough money to have them refurbed. Considered steam cleaning but am worried that the seats will not get dry enough afterwards.
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted May 25, 2025 Moderator Report Posted May 25, 2025 Im not sure what brand of appliances you have there but I have a one made by Bissell Spot Cleaner. (its not the most robust of machines being all plastic but it works ok) It sprays out the cleaning fluid and you can let it sit or brush with the head of it then it sucks the fluid and dirt out of the fabric. It does a good job of getting most of the moisture out but is ever so slightly damp that I try do it on a warm day but its generally dry by night. On heavily stained areas you just repeat more than once. It really freshions the car up too as it has a very natural smell. The down side is that their proprietary cleaning fluid is the expensive part. Its like printers where the big cost is in the ink. I have used it on the lounge too and dog accidents on the carpet so I have found it worthwhile overall. (Yes Used it on the Scheels in the Escort!)

Never heard of it but it is actually for sale overhere as well. Customer reviews are mixed though.

Customer reviews are mixed though. It doesn’t work miracles but these aerosol cleaners you get from auto shops are rubbish because it just liquefies the dirt for you to spread it around. This thing sucks the dirty water back out and you can see it all brown in the catch tank. So while it may not bring things up to look like new most of the stains are removed and overall refreshes. One tank of cleaning fluid only does the two front bucket seats so I think many people expect it to clean much larger areas which its not designed for. One thing I forgot is that they are NOISY for how little they are!
Miniliteman Posted May 26, 2025 Author Report Posted May 26, 2025 How much Watt is your Bissell machine James? See that there are several types upto 1000 Watt.

Ray Posted May 26, 2025 Report Posted May 26, 2025 i use a Karcher Puzzi, basically from RPs description it does the same thing as his 1920s bissell, but at £500 a pop, probably a lot more expensive, (i was a kid the last time i heard the bissell name lol), but if you have glued on fabric like the fords of the 90s, and the rear seat bases on mk1s and 2s they can pull the material from the foam when wet
