V8ian Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 I have never realised the Ford thing for Tractors before, sure I have known the all the bits but never linked then together, They had their own tractor brand, Fordson, They made the first Mass produced car with a viscous diff, RST, designed by Harry Ferguson a well known tractor builder. and they actually name a model after a Tractor Designer, Aston Martins model name the DB 2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9, David Brown is a tractor maker and one time owner of Aston Martin, hence the DB, and Ford own Aston Martin. Can you imagine the face of the DB driver when the is labled with the CHELSEA TRACTOR moniker Even if you go back in the Aston histroy, the first Aston Martin, was built by a farmers Blacksmith, by the name of Lionel Martin, Aston Martin was founded in 1913 by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford. Martin raced specials at Aston Hill near Aston Clinton hence the name, If you go up into the woods above Aston Clinton there is a stone monument to Aston Martin at the top of the hill, They went their sererate ways, I have a strange feeling Robert Bamford was somthing to do with the formulation of JCBamford, a bit more of a tractor link, Ford also own Volvo, who in turn make tractors, Can we see a patern here-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Admin Vista Posted March 20, 2007 Admin Report Posted March 20, 2007 Aston Martin are not the only super car maker (do AM qualify as super cars or as luxury GT cars? ) with a tractor heritage, Lamborghini was also originally a tractor manufacturer.
Twinkle Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 my m8 used to have a porsche tractor it was the first thing i ever drove and yes it was red
EmmaOrbit Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 You can't beat a good tractor, must admit the Fast track is my fav to drive as it goes well fast on the roads. The old Ford Fork lift tractors (the one where you climb though the front) Are the the round ones.... Sorry a farmer Girl!!!!!!!!!!! It's mad how most cars come from the tractor or farm machine. Witch came first the tactor or the car? Lol
Twinkle Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 em in a fast track now that i would like to see topless of course
V8ian Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 It's mad how most cars come from the tractor or farm machine. Witch came first the tactor or the car? Lol I would say car first tractor second, I dont think tractors came about untill the mid 30s after the depression, not saying farms were not mechanised before that but steam power was more widely used using drag ploughs rather ploughs strapped to the back, and gathering hay with steam there would allway be the inherrent risk of fire, also the weight of a traction/ploughmans engine was rather a lot, I think the petrol/diesel small tractor took of after the 2WW when the unitised attachment and the PTO was fitted to the Ferusion or was it the Fordson, allowing a small lightweight tractor to work fields with different crops, changing impliments/attachments easily as required,

Sadly it rendered the shire horse redundant and largely good for dog meat over night . Westcountry classic car shows always have tractor stands and we have to endure tractor displays in the ring Each to their own I guess.

Vista, It worries me that you know the exact tractor model that had the PTO
Admin Vista Posted March 20, 2007 Admin Report Posted March 20, 2007 As I said we have to suffer tractor displays at classic car shows in the summer. Listening to all the Tractor boys go on about which engine is better in their TE20 (think there was 3 options including diesel and petrol variants) is about as throbbing as the 15 page thread over the road about Pinto's Zetecs Duratecs and XE's The traction engines are pretty cool though, some one crashed one & put it on its side at the end of last summer, I think the road was closed for days while they looked for something big enough to lift it. Does beg the question "How the flying f**k does someone roll a steam engine?"
Rick Posted March 20, 2007 Report Posted March 20, 2007 "How the flying f**k does someone roll a steam engine?" lmao, they weigh about 50 tonne dont they
V8ian Posted March 20, 2007 Author Report Posted March 20, 2007 front axle is just a steerable beam, hit somthing hard and turn it sideways and the and the thing is a very tall, high CoG tricycle with a big roller under the front., would tip over very easily in that situation
