the reason Antz wants a 1600 crossflow is because he wants to still have cheaper insurance and a power boost and be able to do the engine swap himself

the 4age engine is good, I know a guy with one in his mk3 fiesta (rwd) rally car and they don't half shift, I've been tempted to put one in the mex but I've decided thats for another project

still its not a very common conversion over here, just surprised to hear someone mention it as it only seems to be done in australia where it is easy to get all the bits for the 4age engine

it is so tempting but I need to decide on what car to put one into, I'm keeping the mex nearly standard so I can't use that, I need to find a decent osf to put the engine into....oh yeah and it needs to be rwd

Its a good little engine but the reason its not popular is because its only a 1600 and can't be bored out much either.

 

As they say 'theres no replacement for displacement' so the 2 litre pinto/xe/zetec it is then.

 

They are all easier to fit as well.

that wat puts me off that fact its only 1600,the cars i know with them in are built for motorsport so are in 1600 class's

i just asked G.S.ESCORTS for the price of a 1.6xflow and they said a 1600gt xflow with weber carb is £350

 

i am going to learn perry.im watching a book on ebay al about teh xflow engine which mk2mad recommended i read.

I'd save up if I were u and get together about £500.

 

That should sort u out a nice mild road engine ready to go.

Antz get yourself down to a breakers yard and retrieve any old knackered ford engine, I picked up my 205 pinto that way for £40. Pull it apart yourself following the manual step by step and you'll be a long way down the road to figuring out how an engine works. I started with a Honda Step through engine, I bought the whole bike for £10 in 1984 (it ran then) pulled it apart and rebuilt it

 

it didn't work anymore but it served its purpose at least

 

And as has been said you won't get a top engine for budget money, be content to have fun with what you've got (aplogies for being patronising I know it aint easy, my first Escort was a Mk1 1300XL in 1986 and I was desperate for more power) and when you can afford it it'll happen.

Ant, I think I might have bought the eBay engine you were looking at, 1700 xflow, BCF3 Cam, duplex timing etc... you can have my 1600gt engine for £350, 1300gt pistons + 90, lightened balanced bottom end & flyweel, gt head (unleaded), gt cam, gt carb, K&N Filter, all ancillaries Sachs Sports clutch.... everything you need to just bolt it in... only rebuilt 1000 miles ago, was used in my rally car lovely and smooth, sweet as a nut... its a bargain

i see your point guys but if i was shelling out £500 for an engine id go buy an XE!

 

i want a 1.6 xflow because its cheap (or so i thought) and itll bolt stright to what i have.

 

i know i am rushing for more power but i cant help the urge for speed

 

vista i see where you are commign from and i have thought about what you say but the fact is. the scrap yards around here are fooking useless! if you want something from a car you go get it yourself. sometimes a good thing if you knoww aht you are after but i havent got a clue how to get an engine out of a car so im stuck at the first hurdle.plus there are no fords in sight.they all all seem to be modern corsas destroyed by boy racers

 

i am watching a full manual on the xflow engine on ebay and hopefully that will teach me what to look for.

 

i am going to continure my search for a xflow engine while i read up on them and hopefully ill get lucky as well.
