BIG G Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 could some one tell me how far back there panhard rod tower is positioned from the axle. as welding mine on tomorrow afternoon. mine is rose jointed each end so wondering where it should go then a weekend of sidewaysness
V8ian Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 I set mine so it was parrlell to the ground with the suspension loaded, and parrlell to the axle tubes with 1/2" clearence to the diff cover, this was dictated by the fact my tank is right behind the diff, never had a problem with interferance.
BIG G Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 cheers ian for your help so as close as poss is the key then.
V8ian Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 Closer is easier to package, with less/shorter bracketry welded to the axle, and with shorter brackets, there is less deflection and leverage applied to the bracket and axle, The longer the rod the better, there is a slight handling payoff against a watts linkage with body jack with the panhard rod. so if it is set parrell to everthing it almost negates the jacking problem, TBH you will be very unlikely to ever notice it, Just a thought, are you fabricating the brackets or using a pre fabbed kit, cos it will probably be a pain to shorten the towers,
BIG G Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 made my own rod and tower the only issues i have is the exhaust and the way it goes over the axle. my car is pretty low so the axle loop comes close to the axle as its a straight under the right hand side of the car and 2.5" but whatever i do i hope is going to be better than standard.
V8ian Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 you WILL notice a difference once it is fitted. Its on my list of first things to do on any leaf sprung car.
BIG G Posted March 22, 2007 Author Report Posted March 22, 2007 Cheers ian looking forward to the first roundabout
BIG G Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 Its on all welded need a new fleece as i was on fire at one point need new axle u bolts as thread has stripped. so cant try it out boo hoo
BIG G Posted March 24, 2007 Author Report Posted March 24, 2007 Cheers jason but these need to be super long ones as 2.5" blocks. i could draw you a sketch as im crap with these modern abbacuss's
Jay_harrier Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 If you get stuck I've got some 2" blocks & U's if you need something for the short term - literally dropped out of a shell today
