  1. Ah, I was expecting you to give some wisdom from the reg number to have something that gave it away, my doc says first registered in 2023 so not really something that 'if you know what you are looking for' And as I wrote earlier, the VIN says built by Ford SA which is much more obvious when look at than the format of the number Mine is a KVO so that would be a tell for imported cars
  2. Enlighten me, I have just yesterday received my reg for my SA car, whats the tell that gives it away?
  3. And dont forget the SA 1600 sports come with the RS strengthening, what seems to be thicker ARB, uprated springs (I think) and an original ford mex front spoiler If you are really lucky you also get a leaky fuel tank, a tool kit where the UK tank was, and some tasteful bodges
  4. I am biased to this but they are all Escorts and it says on the VIN that it was built in SA so its not hiding it. I've had an RS1600i, XR4i and a Cossie in the past, none of those were built in the UK, South Africa is just another country like Germany.
  5. make sure you keep that firm, if he low balled you to start with you can guarantee he will try to go lower now, I have to come over to an automotive manufacture in Woking the week after next, if you still have it then I may take a look myself
  6. Thats worth £15k everyday of the week, I doubt you'll have any problems selling it for that, If I didnt already have mine, I'd rip your arm off for it
  7. cheap at that price but nothing comes up when you google them either must be as rare as the the hens tooth found in a rocking horse poo after it eat the hen shame cos they look great
  8. .gov says about Q plates Keep the original registration number Your vehicle must have 8 or more points from the table below if you want to keep the original registration number. 5 of these points must come from having the original or new and unmodified chassis, monocoque bodyshell or frame. PartPoints Chassis, monocoque bodyshell (body and chassis as one unit) or frame - original or new and unmodified (direct from manufacturer) 5 Suspension (front and back) - original 2 Axles (both) - original 2 Transmission - original 2 Steering assembly - original 2 Engine - original 1
  9. Always wanted a 3.0GXL, and even looked at a couple before buying my mk2, maybe one day I will get one
  10. welcome, car sounds great
  11. I did write a note apologising for the confusion, a little grovel wont go a miss
  12. Received my letter from Ford today, its a Ford headed letter addressed to the DVLA that confirms that car with xxx VIN was built on xx date and signed, so the DVLA should not be able to argue with it Sent my docs off again so now a case of wait and see again.
  13. I'll let you know next week if it arrives
  14. Phoned Fords today and spoke to someone who gave me an email address to write to in order to get a certificate of conformity for the car, she told me they dont deal over the phone, only through email, in case anyone needs it, the address is coc@forddac.co.uk, within a couple of minutes of sending the request I had a reply, just had to send photos of the complete car and the VIN plate and supply proof of ownership and they will now send the letter to confirm the build date next week, took no more than 5 minutes, so very pleased with Fords today.
  15. Sorry, forgot to add that it didn't come with the SA log book
  16. I have a South African Import 1600 sport, I sent the docs off to DVLA to get it UK registered and it was rejected because the dating paperwork prepared by the MK3 Cortina was done using the VIN decode. The letter says I need to have a written, headed paper dating from Ford. I have tried calling but I just got told by a very unfriendly, unhelpful person that was the decision so it stands and it wont change. So, does anyone have a contact to go to at Ford for acquiring a date certificate of some sort, DVLA seem to think Ford UK will be able to do it. I have been googling but havent found anything promising yet, Thanks
  17. it is the mk3 cortina owners club which I am told is registered with the DVLA, this was sorted by Alan at car cave who sends several a month to DVLA
  18. I'm having similar problem, I dont have the SA docs to date the car so I sent my docs including a registered owners club confirming date from the VIN, unfortunately, I forgot the NOVA doc, my own fault for doing in a rush before I went to Spain, it was rejected saying it needed the NOVA doc but looking at the form, everything else was ticked so good, so I sent it all back with the NOVA addressed to the guy that had rejected it but another guy opened it and has now rejected it again saying I need the build date from ford as a car club is not good enough. I'm a bit stuck now, how can one guy say the dating was ok and another reject it?
  19. Thanks Jonny, looks like I'll be buying an alloy bellhousing
  20. I have read that when the type 9 box is fitted the 4 branch on a xflow clashes with the iron bellhousing of the type 9, can anyone confirm that please and how they fixed it? And on another note, mine is a SA import, the 4 branch had extentions on the pipes as the exited the head that put them quite close to the body, I've seen this on other SA imports as well and it does look like mine has had a type 9 in there at some point, the bulkhead is hammered and the original box mounts have been replaced, do you think that was there fix for my question above or is there another reason for extending the pipes? TIA
  21. Well after alot of thinking and looking at whats about, I have changed direction a little and put a deposit on a mk2 Escort instead of a Capri (I havent written off the idea of a Capri, but it is now delayed) This is the car Its will be delivered Monday
  22. Just joined up, I'm looking to get back into Fords again, I lost interest in the early 2000s when everything went a bit boring. Bit of history, I had a few Fords before going to the dark side (VW), including: Anglia 105E with 1500GT engine mk2 Escort pop plus, but mate had a harrier and wrote it off in a week so I rebuilt into my pop plus till some scum nicked and stripped it Escort RS1600i 3dr Cossie XR4i XR2 I then went over to VW and currently have a Corrado with a mk5 GTI engine and DSG gearbox fitted I'm am now looking for a mk1 facelift Capri, but not sure weather to for a 3000GXL and keep it original (maybe wheel change and slight drop) or a lower model and make it my own build I'll write up whatever I do so watch this space Graham
