My advice is don't. Old man Dave is as deaf as a post and wouldn't know a pinking motor if it had a big neon sign on saying "I'm rattling like a barsteward." And he insists on taking off the vacuum advance on the dizzy when you've told him specifically not to because you need some economy out of it as you do 300 miles a week. Steve is OK as long as its to do with bike carbs but don't dare complain that they're faulty.
How to tune Pintos/Kents the Dave Bogg way.
1) Wind on the advance straight away so its so far advanced, it's off the crank pulley timing marks. According to him, all Pintos can run at least 18 degrees.
2) Take out the main jets and run a drill bit through them. Sod the secondaries and air correctors.
3) Remove vaccum pipe, knock up a short one to block up the hole.
4) Bang it on rolling road and give it full welly, apparently completely oblivious to the massive amounts of pinking going on.
5) Smile and say "There you go. Be right now lad. Would you like to come look at my V6 MK1 Transit recovery truck?"
In the 80's, old man Dave was good at what he did. Now? Well I'm less than 10 miles from them and I go elsewhere.
The last time I went to Boggs, last year, was the last I'll ever do. Within a week I undid everything he had done because he'd basically wrecked the car. Upped my fuel economy from 26MPG to 37MPG and stopped the pinking. Seemed to go a bit quicker too.
In short, the only decent thing out of Boggs, apart from the road home, is the manifolds for the bike carbs.
