  1. The custom range are really nice. Here's one of my other modified escorts Rear end is all scratch built
  2. Hi it has a scalextric escort mk3 chassis fitted, which is the same as a scalextric capri. The axles need to be shortend to get the rims under the arches and also the chassis needs a little trimming at the front and rear. It's a good fit overall, looks nice with the rs wheels fitted. Sorry if i mislaid, the livery on the car does not match the shell type. I didnt mean the airfix model didn't have a long bumper or square lamps The airfix car was based on the 1300e type shell,ie square headlamps, long front bumper. And not a avo mexico or rs1600 as the scalextric model, which is called a special build But yes airfix escort is possibly an xl too as it doesnt have the"mexico" or "e" front wings. So maybe it is modeled on the xl. Should of realy cut the center out the front bumper,to make them look like 1/4 bumpers though. A 1300 xl was my first ever mk1 Heres' a pic of underneath to give you an idea.
  3. Hi,Airfix models are great, especially the slot car versions. I'm heavily into scalextric. Airfix are now owned by Hornby, who happen to own Scalextric Here's a converted airfix escort shell with full scalextric running gear, complete with with custom paintjob, hand made decals, then clearcoated. One of my favorite models.Modelled on a 1300e originally Although not strickly accurate, small arches, long front bumper etc Airfix lotus cortina's and zodiacs are awesome cars,as with all airfix 1/32 scale cars, there detail for there age is fantastic Hope you like my escort,Tim
  4. She looks EVER SO sweet Ric. Reminds me of a mk1 mex and old geezer by me had from new. Take your time putting it back together, will be worth it,the details make or brake a car. Tim
  5. Thats hard as nails, love it. Tim
  6. Hi mate and welcome. Just what a cappa should of had eh?,A big v8!!! Love the rear axle location /traction bars ,from the spring plates forward. Good idea Almost a tramp bar? Tim
  7. I know ,there not cheap. £350 plus VAT too.! Infill panels are 68 pounds each . So thats £418 plus carrage and vat...Mad. They are a realy nice panel though. I've heard there's a 6 months waiting list on these also. I think i'd be mad parting with them as i might not go ahead with the steering conversion alltogether. I realy don't don't want to sell the wings seperately from the infill panels either. Just gauging interest at the moment. Owners club panels make it worth while restoring your own panels, but they will be just that, repaired panels. The wings on my tina have had new nose sections let in and there bubbling up,hence they probably wernt done properley. Saying that a scrap wing can go for over a ton. Drivers sides tend to go for more. Silly money Tim
  8. Hi guys. Does anyone know what sort of value to put on a pair of brand new express steel mk1 tina front wings.? I have the infill parts which come seperately also. They are brand new and unused. I understand there is a waiting list for these.. I have them as spares for my tina, which does need new wings fitting but i would possibly consider letting them go towards funding my steering rack conversion. I want a few mechanicle jobs sorting out first you see.. Thanks Tim
  9. I got my copy from asda. It's got my mate Pete's mk1 cortina on the cover and on the inside, white 2.0 ztec I's a special car and deserved a few pages more on it,you could fill a whole magazine just on this car.. But the mags crammed full of real treats,as ever, realy enjoyed this months edition. Silver anglia is quite simply,a joy to look at. The rims on the cortina in the mag by the way are now mine. There going to go on my tina when i restore it in the summer. For those who don't subscribe,i hope you can find a copy soon. Tim
  10. Your skills are simply stunning Dave! Fantastic. Thanks for sharing with us. Tim
  11. Wow,awesome power. Nice motor that pal. My mams best mate had a biege mk1 estate when i was growin up. Loved it then cus it saved walkin anywhere. Love them now cus there just the dogs.. Tim

  14. World of sport and the lombard rallye got me into fords when i was a nipper. Seeing mk2 escorts blow porshes off at lydden hill was superb. My bro had a brand new mk1 escort when i was a kid too. Just knew i had to have one when i grew up. Got my first mk2 at 17. It was jupitor red on an s plate. DBV905S Looked a tidy motor when i bought it,but soon started to fall apart. I spent a year welding it in the first bodyshop i worked in .Did a bare metal respray on it. And when i got it on the road i replaced gearboxes for fun in that car, just couldn't help myself. Had another 2 door mk2 soon after i sold that, gave it to my girl at the time and she soon fuxxed me off hehehe.Bitch. Miss the car don't miss her. Had several mk1's,2 door 1300 e,4 door xl and the mintest 2 door xl i have ever seen with square lamps, looked like a twincam when i got the last pair of mex wings from fords. Had mk 4,5 tina's,16.gl.2.0 ghia. Had capris,2.0 ghia, calipso. Never had the bees knees models as i was alway s too young. Years in the wilderness restoring aircooled vws untill i bought my mk1 tina. Stupidly Sold it . Had a mk1 RS2000 and a RS Cosworth escort since. But since got me tina back. And the joy continues.
  15. Thanks Guys and gals ,just got back after an epic 12 hour drive. Me mate lol took me down in his arl polo at 6.45 this morning. Gets down there dead easy ,no problems at all. Got the tina, looks better than i expected, apart from a set of beauty rings?? on the lotus steels, but it still runs and drives perfect. Well apart from the front brakes are a tad shite. And the fuel gauge reading half empty... Heading back home we decided to go through a few b roads as a bit of a change. Goes the garage, fills both the cars up. Then we head off again. I'm in front and me mate soon starts flashing his light behind me. We had a major rear wheel bearing failure.... No,not on the tina,on me mates polo!!! Jack out,hub off, revealed the inner bearing had welded itself to the hub,MAJOR PROBLEM. Since we are both handy with the spanners,i leave me mate with the hammer and chizzell and i go off in search of a motor factors. All on foot, cus i just would of got lost up all the one way streets etc. Lucky me as i asked a local garder who just happened to know somewhere A hike and a half later,i find myself at the shop, Laffin bags,it's open.!! Gets a bearing kit,Tuba grease and i head back to me mate. I cud here him a mile away hammering. I get there and he said,im off to see if he cud buy a blow torch. I gets on with the chisseling and low and behold it pops off. HAPPY DAYS. Mate comes back with a coupla coffes, were on our way.. Within half an hour we had it all built up and ready to hit the road again. Then we had a trouble free journey back to bootle, allthough we had to stop off a couple of times on the way back to user the loo. Heres a pic,now where do i get me 4 pots from.? How happy am i? Me mate lol.No his names lol, i aint laughing..haha Here's the hub. Anyone seen the golf on page 138 of this months retro ford? genius. And we were laughing at that pic this morning when i bought the mag at oxford services.. Next time im taking a shopping trolly wheel, just in case. Off out on the lash now, perfect timeing. . Take care and thanks again. Tim
  16. Hi all. It's my birthday today and i've had to stay sober... Of a saturday night as well. One time i didnt even think i'd make it to 30! So it's a great achievement being here today. So i'm goin to treat meself. Heading down to Wraysbury Middlesex to get my old tina back. I can't wait to get in it and give them 40's a good blast of the right foot.. Keep you all posted on how it went. Have a good day everyone,Tim
  17. Thanks for your comments guys. Hopefully i will have it by next weekend. Strangely i have turned down mk1's in better nick over the years, but i always wanted mine back, simple as. Getting itchy fingers now. Might not touch it for a while as it's still on the road. Let you all know. Take care all,Tim
  18. Hi all. Amazingly i have the chance to buy my old mk1 cortina back from the lad i sold it to. I did a lot of work to this car A highly tuned lightened and balanced 17 cross flow, bvh, twin 40's heavy duty clutch etc. I totally rebuilt the steering. Fitted new old stock single leaf rear springs and poly bushes. Relocated the battery in the boot. Bought a few repair panels ,rear arches etc Did a bit of welding. Made my own custom seat brakets for the buckets. Started to fit a few goodies onto it. Lotus center consell and that. Plus loads more. Due to loosing my storage space at the time and the council knocking my house down,it had to go,very sadly. I swear i cryed when i saw it driveaway up the road I have been in contact with over the last few years from time to time since i sold it. He has only done 400 miles in it since he bought it from me. He has changed the rear diff to a 3.7 and bought a new pair of front wings. Which he hasnt had fitted,or any of the panels i sold to him at the time. It has gone a bit more rusty around the edges...thats why it needed the panels in the first place, but essensially it is still a solid shell. But there's always more work to do when you start stripping it down, thats the best bit for me. I spent alot of money on this car and i got a good price for it when i sold it. Now it could be mine.within a couple of weeks. But i cant stop to think how bad the wireing was ? and how shite the petrol gauge was? and why on earth did i never get the bush for the base of remote gear lever stick?. Slamming the throttle down at the lights when it's in reverse is never that good!! What you all think. Think my minds made up.. Let you all know in a week or so. Here's a pic of it when i had it,if it works sorry. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y237/d ... SPICS7.jpg Tim
  19. Great photo, would of made my day seeing that tina. I'd of followed it knowing me. Tim
  20. Looking Sweeeeet Chris. Shes a thing of beauty. I carn't wait to see further pics as it's coming together. Well done for your efforts so far. Tim
  21. That is beautifull! Great lookin mk2 mex you have sir.. Tim
  22. I'm realy sorry to here that mate,i simpathize with you. Tim
  23. That's rearly hard luck mate. A similar thing happened to me when i was having a highly 17 xflow built for my tina. I bought a complete engine from someone who was sopposed to know about tinas and escorts, sopposedly a 16gt,low miles and when i stripped it ,it was bolloxed and i mean bolloxed . It had the wrong 68if earlier crank fitted ,a heavily scored block (which wouldnt of matterd as it would of been bored out anyway ) but one of the grearbox mounting lugs was snapped! And it didn't even have a big valve head on it..!!,i payed a few bob for it too. Started again from scratch and ended up with a truelly stonking motor in the end. Set backs piss you off but it sometime helps you get it right second time around, even when it's not your fault. Keep pluggin away, you'll get there soon. Tim
  24. This is the way to go,will look realy ace.. I'd of kept the peg baskit though Tim
  25. They are cool arn't they.?? I've just recently sold a pair of mine ...sadly There a lot better looking than the old cortina's made by airfix. I have just sold my collection of them too, i had over 60 of them in all different colors and versions, charming wee model slot cars. Best of luck with yer new tina. Are you goin to race it? Tim
