  1. Gorgeous Colour! Jade Green Metallic?
  2. Cheers Guys I couldn`t have a mk 2 without the fibreglass "S" front spoiler, they just look naked. IMHO The engine bay shot was taken by a professional (Nick Simmonds) up at North Weald drag strip. If you notice he even photoshopped out the bonnet stay!!
  3. This is my JPS Capri, standard and original interior but with tuned engine, suspension mods, revos and a front spoiler which wasn`t available until a year later. Hope you like.
  4. The guy in the Explorer said he would give mw a head start as he had more BHP than me . I didn`t get to race him though. I think he ran an 18
  5. I thought there would be a few more OSF users at this meet, there was last year. Mind you it was still rammed. I had to queue over an hour for every run, only got four runs in all day. Still, I got a 15.7 at 87 mph which is a good first outing for my Capri. There is more to come though I`m sure as the engine is hesitating between 4 and 5 K.
  6. I think the spring is the standard mid range one as it is a fairly new carb and hasn`t been altered. I am thinking about getting the quick change kit and a set of springs. Thanks for your help, I might well try e-mailing Holley directly.
  7. Cheers! I have just got hold of some books and downloaded from the Holley website so hopefully I can fing out what I need to know.
  8. They just set the timing to a standard setting and the mixture by the exhaust probe and then did two power runs. Still cost £100 though I thinking a stiffer spring to open them more slowly too John, It has a kent V63 cam big valve heads and powermax pistons, lightened flywheel too.
  9. Here it is, You can see two graphs layed over one another. The one that makes the most power is where the Holley carb vacuum secondaries have been allowed to come in. Unfortunately the moment thay come in causes a temporary leaning out causing a dip in torque and power. You can see the Lamba line at the bottom showing a small spike indicating the leaner moment. The dotted line is a run with the secondary chokes wired shut. No dip in power but an overall loss in top end. If anyone knows how to improve this situation I`d be very interested.
  10. I lost 55 bhp out 181 bhp , my tyres are 205 60`s. Interesting what you say about higher pressures giving a higer figure on the rollers, but I guess the corrected figure would be the same, it is just that there is less friction on the harder tyre.
  11. Yeah, the gear box is an unknown quantity. I have refreshed the oil but beyond that I don`t know, so it is likely that that is the main loss. But an expensive one to improve and I wouldn`t want a straight cut gear box on the road anyway. Your right about all rollers being different, but I wonder if the losses when shown as a percentage would also vary. In theory they shouldn`t but I guess that depends on how they are calculated.
  12. Cheers for the input so far I have got new rear wheel axle bearings, fresh correct grade oils, light alloy wheels (revos) , tyres pressures were 28 lb in each rear. The clutch shouldn`t come into it should it? Unless it was slipping? But I will make sure the brakes aren`t dragging. Surely a grippier tyre would show more losses as there would be more friction? My propshaft is slightly longer than it need be, it is quite close to the rear gearbox oil seal, hopefully it isn`t binding up. I`ll have to loosen the centre bolts and make sure there is still some free play on the gearbox splines.
  13. When reading through power outputs and then comparing the "at the wheels" figure to the flywheel figure it seems there can be large variations between different cars. For instance, mine is losing almost 55 bhp thrugh the transmission whereas as higher spec race car with 230 BHP was only losing 25 bhp. Seeing as every horse power becomes increasingly more expensive to find it would seem freeing up what is there and delivering to the road with less tranmission losses would be worthwhile. Now the race car had a straight cut gear box, but is that the whole story or are there other ways of seeing more power at the wheels? Interestingly the guy who tested mine on the rollers thought that a large amount of the losses come through the tyres, but I can`t get my head around that really, as surley that is where you would want there to be friction. Also I think I may have one of the rear brakes adjusted out a click too far so this would lose a bit if the drums were rubbing. So where else can I look, one piece props? friction reducing additives in the gearbox? Your thoughts please.
  14. Too right! The Pinto is a great engine but for me a capri needs a V6, If only to fill the engine bay. But I love the torque and the long gearing, all part of the cars character.
  15. Nice one!! Hopefully I`ll be there to chase you up the 1/4 soon
  16. 16.0 is a good time for a 2.8. What axle are you using? Most run nearer 17 secs. What was your terminal Speed? Some Toyo R888`s and some softer rear shocks might get you your extra speed if you don`t have them already. Due you have your interior in place still? Check all your wheels are as free as possible and put plenty of air in the fronts to lower rolling resistance. The easiest swap would be to drop in an Essex lump as this would be more tunable and most of your connections would match up crossmember etc., even the rev counter. But it isn`t a popular choice due to weight. But if you were worried about weight you wouldn`t be using a Capri
  17. That looks so sweet
  18. Will do! I just need to find somewhere local who will do it for me, I don`t fancy doing it myself. Although I will apply the stripes myself.
  19. thats impressive! whats the spec of the motor?? It has powermax pistons, big valve heads, fast road cam, lightened and balanced bottom end, steel timing gear and a holley 390 carb.
  20. Thanks for the positve comments!! I have just got back from Thurston Engineering in Ongar after a quick set up and a couple of power runs. It made 180.6 bhp @ 5750 rpm with over 174 lb of torque, could have been better but it is fun to drive now
  21. She`s gotta breath that`s my only concession to bling
  22. I would have gone for option one but then I saw that I could bolt on some goodies up to Gp1 standard with option 2 so that is what I voted. I`d love a racer but seeing as on my small budget I have gone for the fairly standard but tweaked look I don`t see why I would do it any differently with a bigger budget. The same thing just to a better standard. I can still do a track day with it, i just won`t overtake anyone
  23. Yes it is Vista only 2 previous owners and 73,000 from new. Although I must confess to pulling out the pinto and replacing it with an Essex. The interior is all original though and in very good order. I have just tweaked the engine, wheels and running gear, oh and fitted a Mk2 "S" front spoiler even though they wern`t available until a year later. But it is how I would have loved to have one back in the day, so period mods mostly.
  24. Got my MOT last week So first time I have driven my car in the two years since I have had it! And the first time it has been driven on a highway in twenty years Got a rolling road tune up booked for tomorrow as it isn`t running how it should, hopefully that will sort it. I have still got to put on the Gold stripes and badges but i need to get the paintwork mopped first.
