Regret selling my: Mk1 1300 Sport. Supercharged Rover V8. Awesome at the time (1980). Mk1 Mex. Black-on-black, twin 40's on a 1760. Gorgeous. Mk2 mex. Yellow. Did about 80,000 miles in it as an every-day car. Mk2 RS2 X-Pack. Yellow, Caged, twin 48's on a 2.1. Mental as anything. Mk2 RS2. Yellow with a black vinyl roof and mint. Anglia 123E. Big-block V8. great car. Sold them all for a profit, but that's not the point. I'd have any one of them back now. Never mind - still got my RS8500!!

That is why we need to involve ALL motoring organisations, HGV's, Motorbikes, the lot. There is no point just one group protesting, that would be 'HEAD OVER THE TOP OF THE FENCE' as you put it, and we'd never achieve the numbers necessary to make an effective protest. We all know members of other groups, or are involved in other areas of the car culture through family or work, we need to get them all motivated. The government may want to dismantle the classic car movement, but there is no way they want to upset all of the motoring public - far too big a group with far too much financial clout. Oh, and there are already 52 states in the US, that would make us the 53rd!

I wasn't taking the p*ss out of fibreglass panelled cars. Fibreglass panels are sometimes more faithful to the originals than cheapo-repro's, and they can be made to look as good as.......Look at my car - it's all fibreglass, only the roof and rear wings have any steel in them. I was taking the p*ss out of some of the more 'paranoid' people who took offence at the starting post of this stream. Life's too short peeps!!! Oh, and yes, I am a w*nk*r!!!

Ah, then there was the engine used in the Mustang in the film 'Bullit', the venerable ford FE v8. Came in 352, 390, 402, 427 & 428 ci (plus a couple of other 'peculiar' sizes). Powered just every Ford product from the Edsel to the big-block GT40' and Cobra's. Immense tuning potential, and still a winner on the tracks & strips. AND it was the engine we had in our old Anglia. BUT the Windsor V8 still gets my vote.

Yes, a good body man could easily make replacement wings for your Escort / Capri / Cortina, but they would charge you £1500+ per wing because of the labour involved. Anyway, I'm really pi**ed off that you b*st*rds are criticising the panel gaps on my car. It's not easy welding on fibreglass wings - trying to get a decent earth through the Isopon in the strut-tops was a nightmare as well (and the resulting fire left a fairly big panel gap in the garage!). Next time I'll try brazing as I'm sure the flux will allow everything to bond. Now, where is that oxy-acetylene?........

Problem is with repro wings (and the cheaper ones in particular) they tend to come out of well-used or bad quality bucks. The body and swage lines tend to be less defined, and the shape of the panels in general is sometimes really poor. Bottom line is - if you want perfection it's going to cost about the same whether you buy NOS original panels (which fit more-or-less straight on) or cheap repro's which will take sh*te-loads of labour to get right.

I think if it's going to happen we need to get a few things straight: 1. What exactly are we protesting about, and (just as important) what intelligent solutions can we give to the problems? 2. The Motorist is one of, if not the, largest consumer group in the country. There are more of us than smokers, drinkers and even single mothers, so we must have some clout. There needs to be a concerted effort between the various motoring and car clubs (including HGV and Motorcycle organisations) to make this happen on a biblical scale. The government won't listen to 100 trouble-makers, but if there are 10,000 of us on the roads countrywide, then they are more likely to take note. We also need to alienate ourselves from the activists. I know that blowing up speed camera's seems funny, but it will make the public think we're terrorists if we even condone such a thing. Calm, non-violent protest. Get the public on our side. 3. We need facts. There is no point in complaining that "speed camera's don't reduce road casualties because there are still the same amount of people being killed as in 1990" if we haven't got cold, hard facts to back it up. This doesn't mean ripping some article off the internet, it means a genuine report produced by a reputable agency. Same with fuel tax. We need to know the % tax paid in all of the European countries (as we're in Europe we can't really compare ourselves with the UAE or USA). Not speculation. 4. In general, our (the British public) worst enemy is apathy. It'll be fine riding the crest of the wave at the first protest, but when things don't change (and they won't straight away) we need that enthusiasm of numbers to be solid through the second, third, fourth protest. I'm sure you lot will add more ideas, this is just a few I was mulling over whilst sat in traffic this morning. Woolfie Lives!!

I've been doing ebay for years, and I've found it a useful source of income as well as a very useful source for parts (most of the Escy is built from parts bought on ebay US). There are undoubtedly bargains - I've just bought a really nice CBR 600 motorbike for about a third of what it's worth. It can be expensive, both to buy and sell, but as long as you don't have any illusions it seems to work OK. Postage is a lottery, but as long as you either accept what is advertised in the listing or e-mail the seller for postage costs then you can't really complain. If you don't like the postage costs then don't buy the item! Same goes with fees, both ebay & paypal. If you allow for the fees then some items may not be cost-effective to sell. A lot of people get scared posting abroad. We've sent literally all over the globe, and have only had one item go missing. The Post Office website isn't to be trusted though, as items NEVER cost what it says on there. If you don't want to sell abroad then make sure you're not advertising 'worldwide' when you list the items. Like all organisations there are some w*nkers - I got negative feedback from a bloke who said "never sent the item". I would have sent it if the tinker lol had ever paid for it! ebay themselves do sometimes remove items for very strange reasons. I had an 'Action Man' toy removed 'cos I mentioned 'gun' in the listing. I think a lot of their censoring must be computerised and just targets key words. Here endeth the third chapter........

Powered iconic cars like the Mustang, GT40, Thunderbird, Cobra, Sunbeam Tiger, TVR Griffith as well as a raft of US commercials and the 'Mercruiser' boat engines. Light, powerful with immense tuning potential, and a production run in largely unchanged form spanning over 40 years.

And again, if the government were serious about reducing pollution & congestion they would provide a fleet of school busses like the Yanks do. Not school busses like we have - ones that if you live 1759 yards away from the school you have to walk (or get delivered), but if you live 1760 yards away the school let you pay £40 per term to get your kid picked up. I mean REAL school busses - properly funded ones that will collect every kid that doesn't want to walk. Each bus holds 50+ students, average school has 1000 students, that's potentially 1000 vehicles PER SCHOOL not on the road at rush-hour times. Oh, and don't make it voluntary - fine any regular 'drop-off Mum' £50 a day - they'd soon get the message! Woolfie lives!!

I think you're right. It's the English way to just sit back and whinge without actually doing anything. If we were French we'd have blockaded the ports and burnt a few sheep by now! This does seem to be a subject that every motorist is talking about now though, and a few of us were having a chat about it at the weekend. We decided that what we need to do is drive onto the M25 in the morning rush-hour one day and park. That will f*ck up the whole of the South of England & London. It needs to be done in a very organised way though - the press, TV, Radio etc ALL need to have prior knowledge. Then we just sit there blocking all 3/4/5 lanes until some Government face goes on record to say that they will reduce tax on fuel, speed cameras etc etc, and then the protestors promise to do exactly the same every week until the government makes good on its pledge.
