PaulMags - not sure how you think I don't know what I want. I know I want a fast road 1600 with everything else to suit this kind of power etc. I'm using the knowledge and experience that people on here have to help me plan the fine details etc

Are 45's and 48's not overkill for a breathed on road car ? Aardvark101 - I see what you're saying and I know this sounds stupid but I've just always wanted an engine bay with a nice plain and simple xflow in it, fancy looking manifold, no servo and a nice set of twin 40's burbling away

Every days a school day - I just assumed id need lowering blocks no matter what. What strength single leafs do I need then for a fast road car ? Looking through R.A.C.E, PLR, Burton etc catalogues etc 146lb IIRC seems to be what they sell. These the right ones ? I was thinking a panhard rod only because my mate has this set up on his 1600 mk2 rally car and it felt good when we were out in that. Then again, that was with sticky slicks too so not exactly the same as a road car eh !

Cheers ! When you say 2.8 box, I assume you mean from a 5 speed Capri ? Grp4 type rad yes with a (Kenlow ?) electric fan Bike carbs - hadn't thought about them tbh. Are twin 40's very expensive then ?

I've got a standard 1300 lump in my mk2 escort at the moment but this will be getting changed to a 1600 soon ish. I want to go through the car though changing / uprating suspension, brakes, gearbox etc before the donkey swap. I've got a few questions though so that I don't end up wasting time and money 1, If I get a set of twin 40's on the 1300, will they fit onto the 1600 without any issues ? Assume they'd need setting up for the 1600 though ? 2, If I change the rad & fan to a bigger / better set up, will this work ok with the 1300 ? What I mean is, would a bigger rad run the 1300 lump too cold ? 3, Will a type 9 five speed box fit on both engine types or are the clutch and bellhousings etc different ? Sorry of these are simple / stupid questions !

I want to sort out the rear suspension on my mk2 escort but need some advice / opinions first. I don't want to go daft and put a group 4 fully floating turreted blah blah blah - im thinking single leaf spring, pair of bilstein dampers, 2" lowering blocks, tramp bars and possibly a panhard rod. Few questions though 1, what's the difference between single leaf springs and single leaf slipper springs ? 2, depending on the answer to the first question, what bushes do I need ? 3, do I have to / should I change the spring hangers ? 4, where / who would you get this lot from Cheers everyone

Is there such a thing as a full list of what actually makes up a group 1 escort ? Also, what actually is a group 1 car - is it a bit like group N nowadays or am I barking up the wrong tree ???

I asked Steve this same question. They are blue when not switched on but apparently are a white light when they're switched on

Bought a set of crystal clear lights and fancy bulbs and sidelights off Steve at Speedshack last week. Very helpful bloke ! Fitted them into the chrome rings yesterday with no problems but need to get some new plastic bowls now as they've both seen better days from previous bodged screws / bolts etc. Will get a few pics up when they're done but am very happy and they look miles better than the old H4 halogen units that were in it.

I hadn't really started looking at where to buy one from yet to be honest, although I have just been flicking through Classic Ford mag and noticed that Burton's are now doing them. Hadnt thought about crap quality actually but certainly don't want the rim coming off in my hands !!!!!

Mmm yeah I did think about doing an engine build myself but this would be the first engine build I'd do so am not sure if it's a good idea just yet...

Hi, I want a snap off steering wheel for my mk2 escort. The type I want is a springalex but I'm not sure how snap off wheels work - can you get any wheel to be a snap off wheel by using a certain boss or can only certain wheels be used as snap off ones ? Also, what do they look like ? Cheers

I'm ooop north in sunny Lancashire so am miles away from most engine OSF builders & suppliers etc. Who are the 3, Ashton Mobile, HPE & Vulcan I assume ?

Thats the conundrum init. Crap question I know but roughly how much would option A be and how much for option B ? If option B ends up the preferred route, who would you get to do the engine done ?

I'm going to swap the 1300 xflow in my mk2 escort for a 1600 xflow on twin 40's. No management system, just electronic ignition, probably Bestek from Ashton Mobile. Would you: - A..) find and buy a complete engine that's already been gone through etc B..) buy a complete engine and have it stripped and rebuilt with new stuff as needed I'm going to be using the car most days to get to and from work so the engine doesn't want to be an all singing and dancing screamer at its limit, just a nice strong responsive one with as much grunt as practically possible. What do you think ?

Need some headlights for my mk2 escort but I fancy some of those clear ones with better bulbs and possibly the ones with the cross hairs in them ? Question is where do I get them from and do they "just fit" or do they need modifying in some way ?
